The History of Christian Brothers AutomotiveAutomotive
| By: Christian Brothers Automotive

More than 40 years ago, in a small neighborhood outside of Houston, Texas, an automotive repair concept was born that would change the industry forever. Founded in 1982 by entrepreneur Mark Carr, Christian Brothers Automotive came to life after a man from his Sunday school approached him with the idea of opening an automotive repair shop. Even though Mark lacked automotive experience, he viewed this interaction as an answered prayer and purchased the land for our very first shop shortly thereafter.

A Guest-First Revolution

When it came time to open the business, Mark put himself in our guest's shoes and created a list of 25 things that most consumers don't enjoy about getting their vehicle serviced.

"When we started Christian Brothers Automotive, I wanted to change how people looked at auto repair. I said to myself, 'Okay, be a customer.' So I walked outside and I looked at the building, and the place was filthy," Carr said. "I thought to myself, if I didn't want to walk into my shop or sit in my waiting room, how could I expect anyone else to? That's when I realized how much work we had to do. I wanted Christian Brothers Automotive to be a place where customers actually wanted to bring their car."

From there, Mark set out to improve every single item on his list—from uncomfortable waiting rooms to taking time off work or school. After hard work and creative ingenuity, the Christian Brothers Automotive team has provided solutions for them all.

What Is Christian Brothers Automotive?

Christian Brothers Automotive is a nationally franchised automotive repair and maintenance company specializing in complete automotive care for all makes and models. What sets us apart isn't just our expert technicians or state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment—it's our commitment to treating every guest the way we'd want to be treated ourselves.

We didn't begin franchising our brand until 1994, when yet another friend approached Mark about growing the concept. Even as we continue to grow, our commitment to providing the Nice Difference® and living out our mission to Love Our Neighbor as Ourselves has never wavered. Today we're fortunate to operate in over 330 communities across 31 states.

Is Christian Brothers Automotive Religious?

Christian Brothers Automotive was founded on Christian principles, specifically the biblical teaching to "Love Your Neighbor As Yourself" from Matthew 22:39. This guiding value shapes how we treat guests, employees, and our communities.

We welcome and serve everyone, regardless of their beliefs. Our commitment to transparency, integrity, and exceptional service applies to every guest who walks through our doors. We simply let our values guide how we do business through honesty, fair pricing, respect, and community service.

Love, Your Neighbor

When we first opened Christian Brothers Automotive in 1982, it wasn’t just about fixing cars. It was about caring for people. We believed then, and still do today, that loving our neighbor means serving every guest with transparency, joy, and excellence they can count on, no matter which of our locations they visit.

Our faith has always been central to our story. Jesus was the ultimate good neighbor, and His example continues to inspire the ways we serve our community members with humility, generosity, and love. From the very beginning, we’ve been committed to more than repairs by providing the kind of standard-setting car care you can feel. If your vehicle needs attention, we’re here for you, because taking care of you is what matters most.

Community Investment and Service

At Christian Brothers Automotive, our intention is to positively impact the communities we serve; fixing cars is simply the means we use to achieve that. Since our inception, we've partnered with several organizations both nationally and internationally, and we hold a National Day of Service every October. Notable organizations we've given to include YoungLife, Dress for Success Houston, Refugee Rising, Every Village, Open Door Mission, Discovery Youth Foundation, Star of Hope, and many more.

Looking to the Future

Standing firmly on our principles of faith, superior guest service, and strengthening communities, it is our hope that Christian Brothers Automotive continues to positively impact those we serve for many years to come. We wouldn't be here without our incredible guests, franchisees, and team members who embody our values every day.
