Our Transmission Service Process
A reported symptom gives us a place to begin, but it doesn’t establish which service is appropriate. We evaluate the concern first, explain the findings in understandable terms, and wait for your approval before beginning the recommended work.
Here’s what you can expect:
- Evaluation: We assess the transmission concern before recommending a service.
- Explanation & Estimate: We explain what we found and why, then provide the expected cost so you know exactly what you’re considering.
- Approval & Service: Work begins after you approve the recommendation. Because the cost is established beforehand, there are no surprises on the invoice.
1. Schedule Your Appointment
Whether scheduling online or over the phone be sure and let us know what you're experiencing so we can provide fast and accurate service advice.
2. Diagnostics and Inspections
Drop off your vehicle and the shop will get to work with inspections and diagnostics using the same equipment as the manufacturers to determine issues and next steps.
3. Digital Vehicle Inspection Report and Estimate
Following the diagnosis we will text you a digital vehicle inspection report, containing pictures and videos of our findings and recommendations.
4. Review and Approval
A service advisor will reach out to walk you through the findings and recommendations to determine how you would like to proceed, or you can approve work directly in your DVI.
5. Work Performed or Scheduled
Most work can be completed immediately, or scheduled based on parts and customer availability.
Signs Your Transmission Needs an Evaluation
Changes in shifting or vehicle response deserve diagnostic testing. Slipping, for example, occurs when engine speed rises without a matching increase in vehicle speed. Although this can indicate a transmission-related concern, the symptom alone doesn’t identify the failed component or required repair.
Reasons to schedule an evaluation include:
- Delayed engagement when shifting into drive or reverse.
- Harsh, abrupt, or unusually slow gear changes.
- Grinding or other unfamiliar sounds during shifting.
- Fluid leaks beneath the vehicle.
- Engine speed increasing without corresponding acceleration.
- A dashboard warning light related to the engine or drivetrain.
A warning light means a vehicle system needs diagnostic testing. It doesn’t confirm that the transmission itself has failed, so we use the vehicle’s condition and diagnostic findings to guide the recommendation.
Documented Inspections & Clear Repair Estimates
Every repair includes a Free Courtesy Check covering major systems such as the lights, brakes, suspension, tires, and battery. You’ll also receive a free Digital Vehicle Inspection with photos documenting the condition observed during service.
These findings connect the symptoms you reported with the condition identified during the evaluation. We review the information in plain language, answer questions about the recommendation, and make sure you understand the estimate before work starts. You can then approve or decline the recommended service with a clear picture of what we found.
Transmission Maintenance, Repair & Replacement
Transmission fluid service, repair, and replacement address different vehicle conditions. A fluid-related concern may call for maintenance, while an internal fault can require repair or complete replacement. Diagnostic findings determine which recommendation fits the vehicle.
The evaluation helps distinguish among:
- Maintenance Needs: Transmission flushes address applicable fluid service requirements.
- Repair Needs: A diagnosed problem may require work on affected transmission components.
- Replacement Needs: Complete replacements may be recommended when the diagnosed condition calls for a replacement transmission.
Continuing to drive with an unresolved shifting problem can allow the underlying issue to continue. A prompt evaluation provides the information needed to decide what to do next.

What Affects a Transmission Service Estimate?
A description such as slipping, grinding, or delayed shifting can guide the initial evaluation, but it can’t determine the final cost by itself. We prepare the estimate after diagnostic testing identifies the condition and the work required.
Estimate factors commonly include:
- The specific condition identified through diagnostic testing.
- The parts required for the vehicle’s make and model.
- The labor involved in completing the recommended service.
- Whether the vehicle needs service or complete replacement.
Because transmission flushes and complete replacements require different parts and labor, the evaluation must come before the final estimate.

FAQs
-
Q. "What factors determine the price of transmission repair?"Many different factors go into determining costs of transmission repair. The major factor is what type of vehicle you drive. The year, make and model of the car, determine how much parts and labor will cost. Another factor is how much damage the transmission has sustained. Your transmission should last a minimum of 100,000 miles by servicing your transmission on a regular basis.
-
Q. "What does automatic transmission service include?"Fluid is first drained from the pan during an automatic transmission service. A new transmission filter is installed with a new pan gasket once the pan has been removed. Finally, fresh automatic transmission fluid (ATF) is used to refill the vehicle.
-
Q. "Is there a difference between a transmission fluid change and flush?"During a transmission fluid and filter change, it’s only the fluid in the pan that is drained and replaced with new ATF. Four to five quarts of fluid will typically be replaced in this process, while nine to thirteen quarts are replaced during a full transmission fluid flush. The difference in amounts is because the complete flush drains the entire system.
