What to Expect During Transmission Service
We keep you informed from the initial symptom review through the service decision. You won’t be asked to approve work until we’ve explained the findings and our recommendation.
1. Describe the Concern
Tell us when the symptom occurs, what the vehicle sounds or feels like, and whether you’ve noticed a leak, odor, or warning light. These details give our technicians a useful starting point.
2. Inspect & Document
We evaluate the reported concern and provide a free Digital Vehicle Inspection with photos to clarify relevant recommendations and options. The Courtesy Inspection also reviews major vehicle systems.
3. Review the Service Path
Based on the findings, we distinguish among maintenance, repair, and replacement guidance. We explain the recommended path and wait for your approval before beginning the selected work.
1. Schedule Your Appointment
Whether scheduling online or over the phone be sure and let us know what you're experiencing so we can provide fast and accurate service advice.
2. Diagnostics and Inspections
Drop off your vehicle and the shop will get to work with inspections and diagnostics using the same equipment as the manufacturers to determine issues and next steps.
3. Digital Vehicle Inspection Report and Estimate
Following the diagnosis we will text you a digital vehicle inspection report, containing pictures and videos of our findings and recommendations.
4. Review and Approval
A service advisor will reach out to walk you through the findings and recommendations to determine how you would like to proceed, or you can approve work directly in your DVI.
5. Work Performed or Scheduled
Most work can be completed immediately, or scheduled based on parts and customer availability.
Documented Findings & Straightforward Explanations
Transmission decisions are easier to evaluate when you can see relevant vehicle information and understand why we recommend a service. Our free Digital Vehicle Inspection provides photos, and our team explains the findings without burying the answer in technical language.
Our ASE-certified technicians work on all vehicle makes and models using manufacturer-quality equipment. For qualifying work, we also provide the Nice Difference Warranty. We can explain whether it applies to the recommended service.
Complimentary shuttle service is available if you need to continue with your day while your vehicle is with us. Owner/operators are also on-site at our locally owned location, which is backed by the Christian Brothers Automotive network.
Choosing Maintenance, Repair, or Transmission Replacement
The right decision starts with your vehicle’s actual condition. Fluid service may be suitable for a maintenance need, but it isn’t a substitute for repair when inspection findings indicate mechanical damage. Complete replacements are a separate option that may be considered when the condition of the transmission makes that path appropriate.
We compare the reported symptoms with the inspection and diagnostic findings before presenting options. This keeps the recommendation tied to your vehicle rather than to one symptom in isolation.
When Transmission Symptoms Need Attention
Schedule an appointment if you notice a persistent change in how your vehicle shifts or drives. We can evaluate the concern and give you clear information for deciding what to do next.
You’ll receive an explanation of our findings and recommendation before work begins, so you won’t have to guess whether the concern calls for routine service or a more extensive response.
Common Transmission Warning Signs
Some transmission symptoms can indicate a maintenance need, while others may point to a condition requiring repair or replacement guidance. Note when the issue occurs and whether it changes as the vehicle warms up or shifts between gears.
Signs to discuss with our technicians include:
- Delayed engagement after selecting a gear
- Slipping, hesitation, or rough gear shifting
- Whining, clunking, grinding, or other unusual noises
- Visible fluid leaks beneath the vehicle
- Burning odors during vehicle operation
- Transmission-related warning lights or messages
Automatic & Manual Transmission Care
Automatic transmissions and manual transmissions operate differently, so transmission type matters during diagnosis. Similar symptoms can reflect different service needs depending on the vehicle’s design, maintenance history, and inspection findings.
When Transmission Fluid Service May Apply
Transmission fluid supports transmission operation, but service requirements vary by vehicle. We consider fluid condition alongside the manufacturer’s guidance, available maintenance history, current symptoms, and inspection results before recommending transmission flushes.
Repair & Replacement Considerations
A recommendation for repair or complete replacement should follow diagnosis, not precede it. Vehicle age, mileage, overall condition, symptoms, and the extent of the findings can influence which option is appropriate. We explain those factors before you approve the work.

FAQs
-
Q. "What factors determine the price of transmission repair?"Many different factors go into determining costs of transmission repair. The major factor is what type of vehicle you drive. The year, make and model of the car, determine how much parts and labor will cost. Another factor is how much damage the transmission has sustained. Your transmission should last a minimum of 100,000 miles by servicing your transmission on a regular basis.
-
Q. "What does automatic transmission service include?"Fluid is first drained from the pan during an automatic transmission service. A new transmission filter is installed with a new pan gasket once the pan has been removed. Finally, fresh automatic transmission fluid (ATF) is used to refill the vehicle.
-
Q. "Is there a difference between a transmission fluid change and flush?"During a transmission fluid and filter change, it’s only the fluid in the pan that is drained and replaced with new ATF. Four to five quarts of fluid will typically be replaced in this process, while nine to thirteen quarts are replaced during a full transmission fluid flush. The difference in amounts is because the complete flush drains the entire system.
