How Our Car Diagnostic Testing Process Works
Car diagnostic testing at Christian Brothers Automotive Byron Township follows a clear, three-stage process designed to give you confidence in the findings before any repair is discussed.
Scan
Our technicians connect manufacturer-level equipment to your vehicle’s systems. This isn’t a basic code reader from a parts store. It’s the same class of tooling used to test your specific vehicle’s make and model accurately.
Document
Findings are compiled into a Digital Vehicle Inspection (DVI) report. Rather than relying on a verbal explanation, you receive a written record of what the testing revealed, including any recommended next steps.
Review
A technician walks you through the DVI report in plain language. No jargon, no pressure. You decide what happens next, and nothing is started until you say so.
1. Schedule Your Appointment
Whether scheduling online or over the phone be sure and let us know what you're experiencing so we can provide fast and accurate service advice.
2. Diagnostics and Inspections

3. Digital Vehicle Inspection Report and Estimate

4. Review and Approval
A service advisor will reach out to walk you through the findings and recommendations to determine how you would like to proceed, or you can approve work directly in your DVI.
5. Work Performed or Scheduled
Most work can be completed immediately, or scheduled based on parts and customer availability.

When to Schedule Car Diagnostic Testing
Modern vehicles run on interconnected electronic control systems covering the engine, transmission, fuel system, emissions, and safety features. When something goes wrong in any of these systems, your vehicle often tells you, but not always in language that’s easy to interpret.
Common reasons Byron Center drivers schedule car diagnostic testing:
- A check engine light or other dashboard warning light has appeared
- Rough idling, stalling, or hesitation during acceleration
- A noticeable drop in fuel efficiency
- The vehicle simply doesn’t feel right, even without a visible warning
Catching a warning light early can keep a manageable issue from turning into a much larger repair. Our free Courtesy Inspection also covers major systems including lights, brakes, suspension, tires, and battery, and can flag when a full diagnostic test is warranted. We service all makes and models.
What to Expect During Your Visit
If you’re staying while we work, our waiting area has complimentary Wi-Fi and refreshments. If you need to be somewhere else, our free shuttle can take you there and bring you back when your vehicle is ready.
We also offer discounts for community members who serve others:

- Healthcare professionals and hospital staff: 10% off, up to $100 (expires August 31, 2026)
Any repairs you authorize are backed by the Nice Difference Warranty: 3 years/36,000 miles, whichever occurs last.
FAQs

Q. "What does a vehicle test do?"
Today’s vehicles are more advanced than ever. They’re essentially computers on wheels, with complex systems controlling everything from performance and safety to comfort and efficiency. When a warning light comes on or something feels off, our testing process takes a deep dive into these systems to identify the real issue, not just a surface-level code. This thorough approach goes far beyond a quick parts-store scan and helps ensure repairs are accurate, effective, and long-lasting.
