How Brake Service Works at Christian Brothers Automotive Georgetown
We built our process around one goal: no surprises. From the moment you schedule to the moment you drive away, you stay in control of every decision.
Start by scheduling an appointment online or by phone. When you arrive, our technicians perform a free Digital Vehicle Inspection (DVI), a photo-based review that shows you exactly what they see during the assessment. You’ll receive actual images of your brake components so you can understand each recommendation before approving anything. No pressure, no guesswork.
Once you approve the work, our ASE-certified technicians get started. Keith and Mauri are on-site throughout, providing personal accountability you won’t find at a chain. If you need to get on with your day, our complimentary shuttle service means you’re not stranded while your vehicle is in our care.

Brake Warning Signs Georgetown Drivers Shouldn’t Ignore
Catching brake wear early protects your vehicle, can reduce repair costs, and keeps everyone on the road safer. Here’s what to watch and listen for.
- Squealing or squeaking when braking is typically the first sign that brake pads are worn and due for replacement.
- Grinding noises indicate metal-on-metal contact. Pads may be fully worn, and rotors could be damaged.
- A soft or spongy brake pedal can point to air in the brake lines or degraded brake fluid affecting system pressure.
- Vibration or pulsation through the pedal or steering wheel when stopping often points to warped rotors.
- Vehicle pulling to one side during braking may indicate uneven pad wear or a sticking caliper.
- An illuminated brake warning light or ABS light on the dashboard warrants a prompt inspection.
If you’re noticing any of these symptoms, don’t wait. Schedule a free visual brake inspection at Christian Brothers Automotive Georgetown and let our ASE-certified technicians assess what’s actually happening before the situation worsens.

Most vehicles use one of two brake system types, and many use both. Disc brakes work by pressing brake pads against a rotor using a caliper, creating friction that slows the wheel. Drum brakes work differently: brake shoes press outward against the inside of a drum to generate stopping force. Disc brakes are standard on most modern vehicles, sometimes on all four wheels. Drum brakes are more common on the rear wheels of trucks, older vehicles, and some economy cars.
Both systems rely on a hydraulic circuit that transfers the force of your foot on the pedal through brake fluid to the calipers or wheel cylinders. As brake fluid ages, it gradually absorbs moisture, which lowers its boiling point and can reduce braking effectiveness. The friction material on pads and shoes wears down with use, and once that material is gone, metal can contact the rotor or drum directly, producing the grinding sound that signals urgent service may be needed. Rotors can sometimes be resurfaced rather than replaced if wear is within manufacturer tolerances. When they’re too thin or warped, replacement may be recommended.
How Often Should You Have Your Brakes Inspected?
Brake pad lifespan varies considerably. Stop-and-go city driving wears brakes faster than steady highway miles, and heavier vehicles used for towing or hauling go through brake components more quickly than light passenger cars.
Most manufacturers recommend a brake inspection at least once a year or every 12,000 miles. Because we can often complete a visual brake inspection during a routine oil change as part of the courtesy inspection, there’s rarely a need to make a separate trip. Brake fluid should also be checked regularly and replaced when testing shows contamination or moisture saturation.
