If you're concerned about the tread on your tires, we recommend the “penny test” to check your tread depth. Simply insert a penny into your tire's tread groove with Lincoln's head upside down and facing you. If you can see all of Lincoln's head, your tread depth is less than 2/32 inch and it's time to replace your tires.

Signs Your Vehicle Needs Alignment
Key indicators of misaligned wheels include:
- Pulling to One Side: If your vehicle drifts to the right or left on a straight road, it could be a sign of misalignment.
- Uneven Tire Wear: Tires wearing out more on one side indicate that your wheels might not be properly aligned.
- Steering Wheel Vibrations: Feeling vibrations through the steering wheel? This can be a major indicator of alignment issues.
- Off-Center Steering Wheel: If the steering wheel isn't centered when driving straight, it's time to have your alignment checked.

Frequently Asked Questions
What Is Wheel Alignment?
Wheel alignment involves adjusting the angles of wheels to the original manufacturer's specifications to ensure that they are perpendicular to the ground and parallel to each other. This adjustment improves driving stability, reduces tire wear, and enhances performance. At Christian Brothers Automotive Sun Prairie, our alignment processes restore your vehicle's optimal configuration, contributing to safer and more fuel-efficient driving in Sun Prairie.
How Often Should Wheel Alignment Be Checked?
Having your wheel alignment checked every 6,000 to 10,000 miles or once a year is generally recommended. However, if you frequently travel on rough roads or experience the symptoms of misalignment, such as steering wheel vibrations or uneven tire wear, it’s wise to have your alignment checked sooner. Regular maintenance can prevent more significant issues down the line, helping you maintain stable and safe driving conditions in Sun Prairie.
What Are the Benefits of Proper Wheel Alignment?
Proper wheel alignment improves vehicle handling, increases fuel efficiency by reducing rolling resistance, and extends the life of your tires by ensuring even wear. In addition, correctly aligned wheels can prevent unnecessary stress on your vehicle's suspension and steering systems, leading to more comfortable driving experiences and potentially significant cost savings on repairs. Ensuring proper alignment is beneficial for vehicle performance and contributes to long-term cost efficiency.
Can Misalignment Affect My Vehicle's Fuel Efficiency?
Yes, misalignment increases rolling resistance, requiring more energy and fuel to move your vehicle forward. By ensuring your wheels are properly aligned, you not only improve the handling and safety of your vehicle but also boost its fuel efficiency, reducing trips to the pump and lowering long-term operating costs. This efficiency is especially beneficial in Sun Prairie, where fuel costs can fluctuate, making efficient vehicle operation a priority.
How Does Local Climate in Sun Prairie Affect Wheel Alignment?
The seasonal temperature fluctuations in Sun Prairie can impact vehicle alignment, as expansion and contraction of materials can occur, affecting the angles of your wheels. Additionally, road salt used during winter months can lead to wear and tear on suspension components, potentially altering alignment. Regular checks ensure seasonal changes don’t compromise the alignment and longevity of your vehicle, allowing you to enjoy consistent driving performance throughout the year.
