Exhaust System

Skilled Exhaust System Repairs in Columbus, Ohio

Your exhaust system does two important jobs: it removes harmful contaminants from engine gases and keeps your engine running at full power. When something goes wrong, whether it’s a small leak or a failing component, you feel it in performance, fuel costs, and sometimes in the cabin air itself. At Christian Brothers Automotive Polaris, we offer a full range of exhaust system services, from checking for leaks to diagnosing and repairing problems anywhere in the system.

Our ASE-certified technicians are led by owners Tim and Amelia Poppy, a faith-driven family who run this shop on the principle of loving your neighbor as yourself (Matthew 22:39). You’ll hear what’s wrong with your vehicle in plain language, without technical jargon, and no work begins until you’ve approved it.

Signs Your Exhaust System Needs Attention

Some exhaust problems announce themselves clearly. Others are easy to miss until they affect how the vehicle drives. Here are the most common warning signs:

  • Loud roaring or rumbling underneath the vehicle: Often points to a hole or crack in the muffler or exhaust pipe.
  • Rattling while idling: Can indicate a loose or failing catalytic converter, hanger, or heat shield.
  • Exhaust smell inside the cabin: A leak that allows carbon monoxide into the passenger area is a safety concern that needs immediate attention.
  • Declining fuel efficiency: An exhaust leak forces the engine to work harder, which shows up at the pump.
  • Vibrating gas pedal or steering wheel: May signal a restriction or leak affecting engine backpressure.

If any of these sound familiar, don’t wait. Call Christian Brothers Automotive Polaris at (614) 665-7008 to schedule service and let our team take a look.

How the Exhaust System Works

Engine combustion produces gases that travel out of the engine through the exhaust manifold and into a series of pipes, components, and chambers before exiting through the tailpipe. Each part of that path serves a purpose.

The catalytic converter reduces harmful pollutants before they leave the vehicle. The muffler quiets the noise of those moving gases, and a resonator works alongside it to further reduce sound. Pipe hangers hold the entire system in place beneath the vehicle.

Over time, rust and corrosion are the most common reasons exhaust systems fail. In Ohio, winter road salt accelerates that deterioration significantly. Road debris and normal wear on pipe hangers can also cause leaks or allow components to come loose. Regular inspection catches these problems early, before a small repair becomes a larger one.
