What is an ASE-Certified Mechanic?
At Christian Brothers, you’ll work with mechanics certified by ASE for all of your car’s repairs and maintenance. So what is ASE and how should their certification impact your car care decisions? Let’s talk about these questions and others in this blog post.
What is ASE?
ASE is short for the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence. This is an organization that has been testing and certifying technicians in the automotive industry for over 40 years.
How do technicians become certified by ASE?
From working on hybrid cars to auto parts, there are over 40 unique tests that ASE offers. Mechanics must receive a passing grade on at least one of these tests and complete two years of relevant on-the-job experience to receive ASE certification. These certification tests must be retaken every five years to make sure certified technicians are current with recent changes.
What are the tests like?
A panel of executives, manufacturers, educators, and technicians in the automotive industry create the tests. Tests consist of multiple choice questions and can usually be completed in under two hours. Two of every three people who take one of these tests pass on their first try.
Why is ASE certification important to you?
The knowledge and experience that ASE-Certified professionals have can give you confidence in the quality of service and repairs provided to you. Instead of trusting the cheapest auto shop for the repairs and maintenance that your car needs, you can count on someone you know can handle the work correctly.
