What is the cooling system?
The cooling system has three primary functions:
- Keeps the engine from overheating
- Keep the engine’s temperature high enough to meet emission requirements
- Provide heat in the winter
If the engine begins to overheat, the entire engine could be destroyed. That’s why the cooling system’s primary job is to cool down the engine and protect the moving parts from excess heat. However, in the winter, the cooling system also provides heat for comfort in the cab and to run the defrost system.
What mistakes to drivers usually make with their cooling system?
Despite the common misconception, this system does need flushing and refilling with the proper coolant according to the manufacturer’s recommendations for time and or mileage. While it is important for the vehicle to contain the proper quantity of coolant, the quality of the fluid is also essential
What is coolant?
Coolant is a 50/50 mixture of antifreeze and water, designed to keep the internal parts of the engine cool and rust free. The antifreeze we use is called World Class antifreeze, and will not congeal or clog the system.
