Our Car Alignment Process

Step 1: Schedule your visit.
Call us or schedule online for a time that works for you. Let us know if you would like to use our shuttle service so we can plan ahead.

Step 2: Drop off and initial checks.
When you arrive, we confirm your concerns, then our ASE-certified technicians perform diagnostics using computerized alignment technology and inspect related suspension and steering systems.

Step 3: Review your Digital Vehicle Inspection.
We send you a DVI that includes photos, videos, and notes on your wheel alignment angles and overall vehicle health. You can review it on your phone or email at your own pace.

Step 4: Approve recommended work.
A service advisor walks you through the DVI, explains any misalignment and tire wear patterns, and answers your questions. You approve the work through the DVI or by phone before we proceed.

Step 5: Complete alignment and road-ready check.
In many cases, alignment work is completed the same day. If parts or timing require additional scheduling, we work with you to find a convenient time. Before we return your vehicle, we verify that your wheel alignment is within manufacturer specifications.

Signs Your Vehicle May Need Alignment

We recommend having your alignment checked every 6,000 miles or any time you notice changes in how your vehicle drives. Alignment should also be checked after hitting a significant pothole or curb or after a minor collision.

  • Vehicle pulling to one side. Your vehicle drifts left or right when you are trying to drive straight.
  • Steering wheel off-center. The steering wheel is crooked while driving on a flat, straight road.
  • Uneven or cupped tire wear. You see scalloped, feathered, or more wear on one edge of the tire.
  • Vibrations at highway speeds. You feel shaking in the steering wheel or floorboard when you drive faster.
  • Loose or less responsive steering. The vehicle feels less stable, especially in curves or lane changes.
  • Squealing tires in turns. You hear tires squeal when turning at normal speeds.

Our courtesy inspection during routine services often catches misalignment before these symptoms become obvious, which can help you protect your tires and suspension components.

Understanding Alignment Types

Different vehicles and conditions call for different wheel alignment services. We explain which option fits your vehicle before any work begins.

  • Basic alignment check. We measure your current wheel alignment angles to see if they fall within manufacturer specifications. This service identifies issues without making adjustments.
  • Front-end alignment. We adjust camber, caster, and toe on the front wheels. This service is focused on steering feel and front axle alignment.
  • Four-wheel alignment. We align all four wheels so they are parallel to each other and set correctly relative to the vehicle. Most modern cars, crossovers, and SUVs require a four-wheel alignment for full correction.
  • Thrust angle alignment. We align all four wheels to the vehicle's thrust line, which is important when the rear wheels are not tracking correctly with the front. This is common on vehicles without adjustable rear suspension.

Wheel alignment adjusts the angles of the wheels so they are parallel to each other and perpendicular to the road. It is different from wheel balancing, which corrects weight distribution in the tire and wheel assembly. We can review both during your visit so you know exactly what your vehicle needs.

Why Proper Vehicle Alignment Matters

Good alignment does more than keep your steering wheel straight. It affects how your tires, suspension, and fuel use work together over time.

  • Tire life. Misaligned wheels can cause uneven or premature tire wear, which may shorten how long your tires last and require earlier replacement.
  • Fuel efficiency. Poor alignment can increase rolling resistance. Correcting alignment can help your vehicle operate more efficiently, although fuel savings vary by vehicle and driving conditions.
  • Suspension and steering health. When wheels are out of spec, suspension and steering systems can experience added stress that may contribute to future repair needs.
  • Handling and safety. A properly aligned vehicle tends to track straighter and respond more predictably, which supports safer driving, especially in emergency maneuvers or bad weather.
  • Early detection. Addressing issues found during a courtesy inspection helps prevent misalignment from compounding into more serious problems.

What Is the Difference Between Alignment and Balancing?

Wheel alignment adjusts how the wheels are angled relative to each other and the road, using measurements for camber, caster, and toe. Wheel balancing adjusts the weight distribution of the tire and wheel assembly to help reduce vibration. They address different problems, and during a courtesy inspection we can advise whether you need one or both services.

How Can I Check My Tire Tread at Home?

You can use the penny test. Insert a penny into a tire tread groove with Lincoln's head upside down and facing you. If you can see the top of Lincoln's head, tread depth is below 2/32 inch and it is time to replace that tire.

If you're concerned about the tread on your tires, we recommend the “penny test” to check your tread depth. If you can see all of Lincoln's head, your tread depth is less than 2/32 inch and it's time to replace your tires.

Signs You May Need an Alignment Service

While alignment issues are uncomfortable, they also cause big problems for your tires. Uneven wear can shorten your tires’ lifespan and even cause a dangerous blowout while you’re driving.

If your vehicle is exhibiting any of the following symptoms or has been in a recent collision, it’s imperative that you get your alignment checked out immediately:

  • Uneven or cupped tire wear
  • Cupped wear: also known as tire scalloping, this wear pattern appears as dips around the edge of your tire tread.
  • Vehicle and floorboard vibrations at highway speeds
  • Pulling to one side when driving straight
  • Diminished handling capability
  • Steering wheel off-centered while driving

How Christian Brothers Automotive Can Help

Without the correct wheel alignment, your gas mileage, tire life, and overall performance of your vehicle will pay the price. This is why we recommend checking your alignment every 6,000 miles or 6 months.

You may not always notice improper alignment right away. But even subtle changes can cause uneven tire wear and rob your valuable investment of thousands of miles. As your partners in automotive care, we offer a free courtesy inspection check when performing any service. Through our courtesy check, we are usually able to spot alignment problems when changing your oil or performing routine maintenance. However, if you believe you have an alignment problem that needs to be fixed, don’t hesitate to let us know.
