5 Basic Automotive Terms Every Driver in Granbury Should Understand

| By: Christian Brothers Automotive

With our loyal customers so spread out, it’s easy to understand why they may occasionally visit a more local automotive shop.

To protect our customers, even when they aren’t in our store, we want each driver in the area to be informed.

That’s why we’ve compiled the 5 basic automotive terms every driver in North Texas should know and understand.

1. Dipstick

Our ASE-certified technicians will remove your engine’s dipstick to visually check the level and quality of your fluids. The specialist uses this information to determine whether you are in need of an oil change (or other fluid replacement).

2. Spark Plug

When your key turns in the ignition, the spark plug ignites the fuel/air mixture and powers the engine. However, a burnt out spark plug will not properly ignite. Working spark plugs save fuel and money

3. [Battery] Corrosion

Leaking battery acid causes corrosion and is a major factor in battery failure. A corroded battery will not function properly and may leave you stranded with a dead engine. Have your battery checked regularly to avoid build-up.

4. Brake Pad

Overtime, your brake pads wear out. When our ASE-certified professionals check your brake system, they inspect the brake pad thickness, fluid level and condition. This ensures all parts of the brake system are working effectively.

5. Timing Belt

The timing belt operates the engine’s camshaft and is usually made of reinforced rubber. The timing belt is responsible for opening and closing your engine’s valves at the proper time. Have your timing belt replaced at the manufacturer’s recommended mileage interval.
