Everything There Is to Know About the New Texas Inspection System

| By: Christian Brothers Automotive

To help keep the Waxahachie community up-to-date on this new process, the ASE-certified technicians at Christian Brothers Automotive Waxahachie are going to go over how it works now.

How does the new Texas “single certificate” system work?

As of March 1, 2015, drivers in Texas will need to submit their vehicle for the emission and safety inspection within 90 days of when their registration expires.

Instead of putting a new sticker on your car, this year our savvy technicians will enter your vehicles inspection information into a computer database. The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) runs this database.

The information we enter will be referenced the next time you register your vehicle. So make sure your vehicle has been inspected in the last 90 days when you go online to renew your registration.

How will the inspection and registration system affect me in 2015?

For most people in North Texas, the biggest difference you’ll notice is one less sticker on your car’s windshield. You’ll definitely notice a smaller inspection fee at our Waxahachie auto shop, but you also have to pay the state’s fee when you renew your car’s registration.

If your expiration dates don’t match for your registration and inspection, you may be confused on what do and when. Thankfully, between March 2015 and February 2016, there is a grace period for expired inspection stickers. Have the inspection test done whenever you re-register the vehicle. Just remember, the inspection must be done within the last 90 days before you register.

For drivers of commercial vehicles, follow the current annual inspection requirements.
