Our Suspension Inspection Process
Clear information is central to our service process. We document the vehicle’s condition and discuss what we find so you can make an informed decision about the recommended work.
Courtesy Inspection
Every free Courtesy Inspection covers major vehicle systems, including the suspension. This initial review helps us identify visible concerns that may warrant closer diagnosis.
Digital Vehicle Inspection
Our free Digital Vehicle Inspection includes actual photos of your vehicle during servicing. These images let you see documented wear or damage rather than relying on a verbal description alone.
Findings & Repair Options
Our ASE-certified technicians diagnose the concern and walk you through the repair options. We explain the complimentary inspection findings before performing repairs, using straightforward language to clarify which components require attention.
1. Schedule Your Appointment
Whether scheduling online or over the phone be sure and let us know what you're experiencing so we can provide fast and accurate service advice.
2. Diagnostics and Inspections
Drop off your vehicle and the shop will get to work with inspections and diagnostics using the same equipment as the manufacturers to determine issues and next steps.
3. Digital Vehicle Inspection Report and Estimate
Following the diagnosis we will text you a digital vehicle inspection report, containing pictures and videos of our findings and recommendations.
4. Review and Approval
A service advisor will reach out to walk you through the findings and recommendations to determine how you would like to proceed, or you can approve work directly in your DVI.
5. Work Performed or Scheduled
Most work can be completed immediately, or scheduled based on parts and customer availability.
Signs Your Vehicle Needs a Suspension Check
A rough or bumpy ride may be the first noticeable sign of suspension wear. Excessive bouncing after a bump, knocking or clunking noises, and uneven tire wear can also indicate that one or more components need inspection.
Other changes to watch for include:
- Pulling or drifting to one side
- Leaning or swaying while turning
- Nose-diving when stopping
- Rear squatting during acceleration
You can perform a basic observation by pushing down on one corner of a parked vehicle and releasing it. If that corner continues bouncing multiple times, the shocks or struts may be worn. This observation isn’t a diagnosis because steering, tire, brake, and suspension concerns can produce similar symptoms.
Worn suspension parts can reduce vehicle control, increase braking distance, and contribute to tire or steering-component damage. A professional inspection can identify the affected system and determine whether suspension repair is needed.
How Suspension Components Support Ride & Stability
A passenger vehicle’s suspension is a connected system of shocks, struts, springs, control arms, ball joints, bushings, sway bars, and related mounts. Each component has a different role in managing ride quality, weight transfer, and stability.
Key parts of the system include:
- Shocks and struts: Control continued movement after the vehicle encounters a bump.
- Springs: Support the vehicle’s weight and contribute to its ride height.
- Control arms and ball joints: Allow controlled suspension movement while helping maintain wheel positioning.
- Bushings, sway bars, and mounts: Help limit unwanted movement and keep the vehicle stable.
Wear in one area can change how the larger system behaves. An inspection should therefore consider related components rather than focusing only on the part closest to a noise.
What a Suspension Diagnosis Evaluates
Suspension diagnosis commonly combines a visual inspection with road-test observations. The goal is to connect the reported symptom with the condition and behavior of the related parts.
When investigating excessive bouncing or poor ride control, technicians evaluate shock and strut damping. They may also inspect spring height, bushing play, ball joint wear, sway bar links, and mounting hardware for conditions that could explain the concern.
A road test provides context that stationary checks can’t always reveal. It allows a technician to observe how the vehicle responds over bumps, through turns, and as it slows. Those observations are compared with the physical inspection findings to support an accurate diagnosis.

How to Describe Suspension Symptoms
You don’t need to identify the failed component before bringing in your vehicle. A few specific observations can help our technicians reproduce the concern and focus the inspection.
Before your visit, note whether the symptom occurs:
- After driving over bumps
- As the vehicle slows or accelerates
- While turning
- At highway speeds
Changes in ride comfort, steering response, braking behavior, and tire wear also provide useful context. Mention when the issue began and whether it has become more noticeable. Arrange an evaluation promptly because the condition of the suspension affects handling and braking control.

Q. "What is the difference between shocks and struts?"While one of them will be found in every one of your vehicle’s tires, a vehicle will either have a shock or a strut at each wheel, never both.
