Signs Your Brakes Need to Be Repaired or Replaced
Understanding when your brakes need attention is crucial for your safety and vehicle longevity. Recognizing the early signs of brake problems can save you from costly repairs and ensure your safety.
Common Indicators That Your Brakes Need Servicing:
- Squeaking or Grinding Sound: Squeaking and grinding noises are often the first signs of brake pad wear, indicating they are wearing thin and need replacement.
- Vibration: Feeling a vibration when applying the brakes could be a sign of warped rotors, which need to be resurfaced or replaced.
- Longer Stopping Distance: If your vehicle takes longer to stop than usual, it's a clear indication that your brakes require immediate attention.
- Brake Warning Light: A lit brake warning light on your dashboard is a direct signal that it's time for a brake inspection.
- Spongy Brake Pedal: A brake pedal that feels spongy or soft can indicate air in the brake lines or issues with the master cylinder.
- Pulling to One Side: If your vehicle pulls to one side when braking, it could be caused by uneven brake pad wear or a malfunctioning brake caliper.
- Burning Smell: A burning smell while driving may indicate overheated brakes or a stuck brake caliper, both requiring immediate inspection.
