How We Evaluate a Transmission Concern
We connect what you’ve noticed behind the wheel with visible findings, computer data, and vehicle behavior. Manufacturer-quality equipment and diagnostic tools support each evaluation.
The decision path generally includes:
- Confirming the concern: We review the reported symptoms and consider warning lights, transmission fluid condition, visible leaks, computer diagnostics, and road-test behavior as applicable.
- Explaining the findings: Our Digital Vehicle Inspection uses photographs to show vehicle findings and recommendations in clear terms.
- Receiving your approval: We won’t perform work without your permission. Once you approve a service, we complete the authorized work and check vehicle operation afterward.
1. Schedule Your Appointment
Whether scheduling online or over the phone be sure and let us know what you're experiencing so we can provide fast and accurate service advice.
2. Diagnostics and Inspections
Drop off your vehicle and the shop will get to work with inspections and diagnostics using the same equipment as the manufacturers to determine issues and next steps.
3. Digital Vehicle Inspection Report and Estimate
Following the diagnosis we will text you a digital vehicle inspection report, containing pictures and videos of our findings and recommendations.
4. Review and Approval
A service advisor will reach out to walk you through the findings and recommendations to determine how you would like to proceed, or you can approve work directly in your DVI.
5. Work Performed or Scheduled
Most work can be completed immediately, or scheduled based on parts and customer availability.
What Shifting Symptoms May Tell You
The transmission works with the engine and drivetrain to transfer power and control vehicle movement. Delayed engagement, hesitation between gears, or rough shifts may point to an operating concern. Warning lights, unusual sounds, and visible transmission fluid can provide additional clues.
A symptom alone doesn’t identify the required repair. Similar changes in vehicle behavior can have different causes, so diagnosis must come before a service recommendation.
Transparent Service and Practical Conveniences
Owner/operator Ryan Jackson is on-site at our Marietta location and accountable for the customer experience. Complimentary shuttle service can help you continue with your day, while our clean waiting area offers free Wi-Fi.
Approved work is backed by the Nice Difference Warranty, which provides coverage for 3 years or 36,000 miles, whichever occurs last. Warranty service is honored at Christian Brothers Automotive locations nationwide.
When to Consider Transmission Maintenance
Maintenance intervals vary with the transmission type, vehicle design, mileage, driving conditions, and manufacturer recommendations. Your owner’s manual provides a starting point, but current symptoms and fluid condition may also shape the service decision.
A transmission flush isn’t interchangeable with every repair. Depending on the confirmed condition, the appropriate plan may involve maintenance, diagnosis, repair, complete replacement, or continued monitoring.
Questions to Ask During a Transmission Evaluation
Specific details can help us determine when and how a problem occurs. Note when the symptom began, whether it appears at certain speeds or during specific shifts, and whether you’ve noticed a warning light or fluid leak.
Useful questions to discuss include:
- Vehicle operation: Does the current condition affect whether the vehicle should be driven?
- Testing: What inspections or diagnostic steps apply to the reported symptom?
- Options: Which maintenance, repair, or replacement paths fit the confirmed findings?
- Coverage: What warranty applies to the authorized work?
Schedule Transmission Service in Marietta
We accept appointments for Transmission Services on all vehicle makes and models. Drivers throughout Marietta can schedule an evaluation for shifting symptoms, maintenance questions, or repair concerns. We also serve drivers from Sandy Springs and across Cobb County.
Bring any details you’ve noticed about the vehicle’s behavior. We can begin by evaluating the concern, then explain our findings and recommendations before any work is approved.
How Findings Shape the Service Decision
Automatic transmissions and manual transmissions can develop different operating concerns, so we account for the vehicle’s transmission type and specific symptoms. Mileage or a maintenance interval by itself doesn’t establish that a repair or complete replacement is needed.
Each possible path addresses a different condition:
- Maintenance: Transmission fluid service may apply when it matches the vehicle’s requirements and confirmed condition.
- Repair: A repair may address an identified problem when an appropriate repair path is available.
- Replacement: Complete replacements may be considered when the diagnosis and vehicle condition support that option.
- Monitoring: Continued observation may be appropriate when the findings don’t call for immediate work.
Whatever the findings, we can explain the available options in clear language and wait for your permission before beginning service.
FAQs
-
Q. "What factors determine the price of transmission repair?"Many different factors go into determining costs of transmission repair. The major factor is what type of vehicle you drive. The year, make and model of the car, determine how much parts and labor will cost. Another factor is how much damage the transmission has sustained. Your transmission should last a minimum of 100,000 miles by servicing your transmission on a regular basis.
-
Q. "What does automatic transmission service include?"Fluid is first drained from the pan during an automatic transmission service. A new transmission filter is installed with a new pan gasket once the pan has been removed. Finally, fresh automatic transmission fluid (ATF) is used to refill the vehicle.
-
Q. "Is there a difference between a transmission fluid change and flush?"During a transmission fluid and filter change, it’s only the fluid in the pan that is drained and replaced with new ATF. Four to five quarts of fluid will typically be replaced in this process, while nine to thirteen quarts are replaced during a full transmission fluid flush. The difference in amounts is because the complete flush drains the entire system.
