To make the process a bit easier, the expert technicians at Christian Brothers Automotive Arnold have a few tips to help you out when it comes time to get your car or truck inspected.
Helpful facts about Missouri vehicle inspections
While all vehicles are required to have a safety inspection on their vehicle before it can be registered, only drivers in the following counties are required to have an emissions test as well.
- St. Louis City
- St. Louis County
- St. Charles County
- Franklin County
- Jefferson County
As we previously mentioned, your inspection only needs to be scheduled every-other year. But the state makes it easy to remember! If the model year of your car is an even number, schedule an inspection in even calendar years. If your model year is odd, schedule your car’s inspection in odd calendar years.
The emission test in Arnold, Missouri
In Missouri, the State Highway Patrol, along with the Department of Natural Resources (DNR), regulates a program known as the Gateway Vehicle Inspection Program (GVIP). This program is the Missouri smog and emissions testing program, and requires vehicles in certain counties to undergo emissions testing along with their bi-annual safety inspections.
You may be exempt from the emissions test if you drive a brand new vehicle with less than 6,000 miles on the odometer, or if your vehicle was manufactured in 1995 or earlier. When you come in for an inspection at our Arnold auto repair shop, our ASE-certified technicians will let you know whether you also require an emissions test.
