Computer Diagnostic Testing in Irving

Manufacturer-Level Testing for Irving & Coppell Drivers

A warning light on your dashboard tells you something is wrong. It doesn’t tell you what. Modern vehicles rely on dozens of sensors and electronic control modules to manage engine, transmission, and emissions performance, and a single signal from that system can point to several different underlying causes. That’s why we call this service testing rather than diagnostics: we use advanced, manufacturer-level equipment to work through what’s actually happening, not just read a code and make an assumption.

No work is ever done without your approval. You’ll know exactly what we found and why before anything moves forward.

If your check engine light is on or your vehicle isn’t running the way it should, call us at (972) 346-1109 to schedule testing at Christian Brothers Automotive Valley Ranch.

Why Irving Drivers Trust Christian Brothers Automotive Valley Ranch

Our ASE-certified technicians perform all vehicle testing at the Valley Ranch location, operated on-site by owner Brandon Miller. Having ownership present means there’s a person accountable for your experience. That accountability carries through to our warranty: all workmanship is backed by our 3-year/36,000-mile Nice Difference warranty, whichever occurs later.

Christian Brothers Automotive Valley Ranch was ranked #1 in Customer Satisfaction Among Aftermarket Full-Service Maintenance and Repair Providers in the J.D. Power 2025 Aftermarket Service Index (ASI) Study. It’s the sixth consecutive time we’ve received that ranking.

Irving Road Conditions That Stress Vehicle Systems

Stop-and-go traffic on State Highway 114 and the President George Bush Turnpike puts sustained strain on cooling systems and brakes. Add Texas heat and you get accelerated battery failure and faster fluid degradation than drivers in milder climates typically see. That strain can trigger sensor-based warning lights that don’t mean much without proper testing to interpret them.

Signs Your Vehicle Needs Testing

Not every symptom announces itself with a lit warning symbol. Bring your vehicle in if you’re experiencing any of the following:

  • An illuminated check engine light or persistent dashboard warning symbol
  • Sluggish engine turnover when starting the vehicle
  • Electrical accessories losing power unexpectedly
  • Rough running, hesitation, or an unexplained drop in performance even without a warning light

Our process moves in three clear stages: thorough testing with advanced, manufacturer-level equipment, a plain-language walkthrough of what we found, and then your decision on what happens next. Nothing is rushed, and no work is ever done without your approval.

Vehicles we service receive a free Digital Vehicle Inspection (DVI) report that includes actual photos taken during the testing process. The report outlines what we found and what we recommend, so you have the information you need to decide what’s right for your vehicle.

Want to understand what’s happening under the hood? Here’s how your vehicle’s onboard computer communicates and what it takes to interpret those signals accurately.

What Diagnostic Trouble Codes Actually Tell Us

Diagnostic trouble codes, or DTCs, are alphanumeric codes generated by your vehicle’s onboard computer when it detects a reading outside its expected range. An OBD-II scan tool can pull those codes in seconds. What it can’t do is tell you which of several possible causes is responsible. A code flagging an emissions issue, for example, could point to an oxygen sensor, a mass airflow sensor, a vacuum leak, or something further upstream. The code is a starting point, not a conclusion.

Our technicians use the code as a direction, then work through the system to find the actual source of the problem before recommending any repair.

Systems Covered During Vehicle Testing

Testing isn’t limited to the engine. Your vehicle’s onboard computer monitors a range of interconnected systems, and drivability issues can originate in any of them.

  • Engine: Fuel delivery, ignition timing, sensor performance, and emissions-related components including oxygen sensors and mass airflow sensors
  • Transmission: Shift behavior, solenoid function, and communication between the transmission control module and the engine
  • Emissions system: Catalytic converter efficiency, evaporative emission controls, and exhaust sensor readings
  • Electrical system: Battery output, charging system performance, and module communication across the vehicle’s network

A warning light is the most obvious prompt for testing, but it isn’t the only one. Rough running, hesitation under acceleration, or a vehicle that simply doesn’t feel right can all point to a system operating outside its normal range. Testing gives us a clear picture of what’s happening before any repair decision is made.
