The Nice Difference Warranty on Exhaust Repairs
Every exhaust system repair we perform is backed by the Nice Difference Warranty: 3 years or 36,000 miles, whichever limit occurs last. It covers defects in new parts and improper installation, so you’re protected well after you leave our shop, and it’s honored at any Christian Brothers Automotive location nationwide, not just here in South Tulsa.
How Your Exhaust System Works
The exhaust system is a connected series of components that routes combustion gases safely away from your engine and out of your vehicle. Understanding what each part does helps you recognize when something isn’t right.
- Exhaust Manifold: Collects combustion gases from the engine cylinders and channels them into the exhaust pipes
- Oxygen Sensors: Monitor exhaust composition and send data to the engine management system to maintain fuel efficiency
- Catalytic Converter: Reduces harmful emissions by converting carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxides into less harmful gases
- Muffler: Reduces the noise produced as exhaust gases exit the system
- Tailpipe: The final exit point for exhaust gases after they’ve passed through the entire system
A problem in any single component can affect engine performance, fuel efficiency, or cabin safety, which is why a thorough diagnosis matters before any repair begins.
Warning Signs Your Exhaust System Needs Attention
These symptoms don’t always point to the same failed component, but each one is worth having checked promptly.
- Increased Engine or Exhaust Noise: A rumbling sound or a noise resembling a motorcycle can indicate muffler failure or an exhaust leak
- Rattling at Idle: Rattling when stopped at a light may point to catalytic converter damage or a loose exhaust component
- Vibrations Through the Pedals or Steering Wheel: These sensations can signal an exhaust leak affecting the system’s structure
- Drop in Fuel Efficiency: Exhaust leaks can force the engine to work harder, which shows up at the gas pump
- Unusual Smells Inside the Cabin: A rotten egg odor or fume-like smell warrants prompt attention and may indicate a leak or catalytic converter problem
- Dragging or Dangling Tailpipe: A visible sign that a bracket or exhaust hanger has failed
- Failed Emissions Inspection: Can indicate a problem with the catalytic converter or oxygen sensors
