Tips Regarding When to Change my Vehicle’s Filters
Knowing when to change your vehicle's filters is essential for maintaining performance and longevity. Here is a guide to the key filters in your car and when they typically require service:
Oil Filter
The oil filter removes contaminants like dirt and metal shavings from your motor oil. We recommend changing your engine oil and filter every 5,000 miles or according to your owner’s manual intervals.
Engine Air Filter
This filter prevents debris from entering the combustion chamber. A clogged engine air filter can reduce gas mileage and cause hesitation during acceleration. If you notice a loss in engine power, the air filter may be the culprit.
Cabin Air Filter
The cabin air filter cleans the air entering the passenger compartment through the HVAC system. You may need more frequent replacements if you drive in dusty or high-construction areas. Signs it needs changing include:

- Reduced heating or cooling efficiency.
- Musty odors from the vents.
- Sinus headaches or allergic reactions while driving.
Fuel Filter
The fuel filter screens out rust and dirt before fuel reaches the engine. Most vehicles require a replacement every 20,000–30,000 miles or every 2–3 years. Common signs of a compromised fuel filter include engine hesitation, difficulty starting, poor performance, or stalling.
Please remember that soiled filters should always be replaced rather than cleaned and reinstalled. During your next scheduled maintenance, ensure your technician checks your belts, hoses, and all filters.
