Our Alternator & Starter Services Process
1. Schedule Your Appointment
Whether scheduling online or over the phone be sure and let us know what you're experiencing so we can provide fast and accurate service advice.
2. Diagnostics and Inspections
Drop off your vehicle and the shop will get to work with inspections and diagnostics using the same equipment as the manufacturers to determine issues and next steps.
3. Digital Vehicle Inspection Report and Estimate
Following the diagnosis we will text you a digital vehicle inspection report, containing pictures and videos of our findings and recommendations.
4. Review and Approval
A service advisor will reach out to walk you through the findings and recommendations to determine how you would like to proceed, or you can approve work directly in your DVI.
5. Work Performed or Scheduled
Most work can be completed immediately, or scheduled based on parts and customer availability.
We Inspect Before We Recommend
Our technicians use the same diagnostic equipment manufacturers use to evaluate your charging and starting system accurately. Once the inspection is complete, you receive a Digital Vehicle Inspection report with photos and videos documenting every finding. Nothing moves forward until you’ve reviewed the report and approved the work, whether you’re in our waiting room or across town on your phone.
Understanding Your Alternator & Starter
What Each Component Does
The alternator keeps your battery charged while the engine is running and powers electrical components including headlights, windshield wipers, and air conditioning. When an alternator begins to fail, the engine may still start but can stall shortly after because the alternator is no longer maintaining a charge. You might also notice dimming headlights, a battery warning light, or a grinding noise near the engine.
The starter cranks the engine when you turn the key. Starter problems often show up as a single click or grinding sound when you attempt to start, lights that work normally while the engine refuses to turn over, or repeated attempts needed before the engine catches. Because alternator, starter, and battery faults can produce overlapping symptoms, a full charging and starting system diagnostic is the only reliable way to identify the correct component to address.
Accurate Diagnosis Matters
A failing alternator can mimic a dead battery, and a weak battery can mask a starter problem. Our ASE-certified technicians in Beaumont are experienced in working through these connected systems together, so alternator replacement in Beaumont or car starter replacement in Beaumont is based on confirmed findings, not guesswork. Replacing the wrong component wastes money and leaves the real problem unsolved.
Whether you need alternator installation in Beaumont after a complete failure or a repair to restore a partial charging issue, we’ll document every step through the DVI and walk you through the findings in plain language before any work begins.

Alternator Location & Replacement Considerations
The alternator is typically mounted near the front of the engine and secured to the engine block with brackets. Because alternator replacement requires removing the serpentine belt, our technicians inspect the belt at the same time. If it’s worn or approaching its service interval, replacing it during the same visit avoids a separate appointment later.
A failing alternator places repeated discharge stress on the battery. Catching an alternator problem early can help preserve battery lifespan and may prevent a secondary battery replacement. If the alternator has already failed to maintain a charge for an extended period, the battery may need evaluation as well.
Repair Time & Vehicle Variation
Alternator and starter replacement complexity varies by vehicle. On some makes and models, other components must be repositioned to access the alternator, which affects how long the job takes. Most replacements can be completed within a few hours, though the exact timeframe depends on your vehicle’s make, model, and component accessibility. Our team can give you a clear estimate after the diagnostic inspection so you know what to expect before approving the work.

FAQs
-
Q. "Why is the alternator important?"The alternator helps the battery maintain power. As the car is driving, it’s gaining power from the engine. During this time, the alternator is charging the battery. When the car stops running, the charge from the alternator allows the battery to continue providing power to the car.
-
Q. "What does the alternator do?"As an alternate source of power, the alternator helps many features in the car run. It helps your air conditioning maintain proper airflow, powers the radio, and turns on the headlights, among other things. It can also add power to the engine.
-
Q. "Where is the alternator located?"You’ll typically find the alternator near the front of the engine, bolted in with two brackets. One is adjustable (to allow for drive belt-tightening) while the other is fixed.
-
Q. "What are some signs that my starter is going bad?"Some common symptoms that your starter is going bad or is dead include: clicking or other odd noises, lights working in your car but the engine won't turn, taking more than one attempt to start, or smoke coming from the hood.
-
Q. "Do you offer a warranty?"As part of our Nice difference.® commitment to providing our customers the best auto service experience possible, we also offer a3-year/36,000-mile warranty on all the work that we do. We offer this warranty at every Christian Brothers Automotive nationwide, and it will be honored at any location, regardless of which branch did the initial work.

Q. "What is a Digital Vehicle Inspection?"With a complimentary Digital Vehicle Inspection (DVI) on every visit, you’ll see firsthand photos of your vehicle from under the hood. We’ll let you know if everything is functioning properly or if there are any areas of concern. You can even approve or deny our service recommendations, all straight from your smartphone, or you can, of course, give us a call and we’ll explain our findings in further detail.
