What to Expect at Christian Brothers Automotive Weatherford
Here’s how an alternator and starter service visit works from start to finish.
Step 1: Schedule Your Appointment
Book online or call us at (817) 663-8284. Describing your symptoms when you schedule helps our technicians prepare the right diagnostic approach before your vehicle arrives.
Step 2: Diagnostics & Inspections
Our ASE-certified technicians use manufacturer-equivalent equipment to test your starting and charging system. We diagnose the alternator, starter, and related components together because the symptoms often overlap.
Step 3: Digital Vehicle Inspection Report & Estimate
You’ll receive a text with photos and videos of exactly what our technicians found. The Digital Vehicle Inspection Report includes our recommendations and the estimate for any work needed.
Step 4: Review & Approval
A service advisor can walk you through the findings in person, or you can review and approve work directly through the DVI report on your phone. Nothing is done without your approval.
Step 5: Work Performed or Scheduled
Most alternator and starter work is completed the same day. If parts need to be ordered or scheduling requires flexibility, we’ll coordinate with you to find the best time.
1. Schedule Your Appointment
Whether scheduling online or over the phone be sure and let us know what you're experiencing so we can provide fast and accurate service advice.
2. Diagnostics and Inspections

3. Digital Vehicle Inspection Report and Estimate
Following the diagnosis we will text you a digital vehicle inspection report, containing pictures and videos of our findings and recommendations.
4. Review and Approval
A service advisor will reach out to walk you through the findings and recommendations to determine how you would like to proceed, or you can approve work directly in your DVI.
5. Work Performed or Scheduled
Most work can be completed immediately, or scheduled based on parts and customer availability.
Alternator & Starter Service Under One Roof
We diagnose and service both the alternator and starter at our Weatherford location, so you don’t have to make separate trips or wonder if both components were checked. All work is backed by the 3-year/36,000-mile Nice difference.® warranty, and BG Lifetime Protection Services are available at this location for added long-term coverage.
Understanding Your Starting & Charging System
The starter and alternator do two different jobs, but they depend on each other to keep your vehicle running. The starter physically cranks the engine when you turn the key. Without it, the engine won’t turn over at all. The alternator takes over once the engine is running: it converts mechanical energy into electricity, recharges the battery, and powers components like headlights, the air conditioning system, windshield wipers, and the radio.
A dead battery isn’t always what’s stopping your vehicle from starting. A failed starter or a failing alternator can produce the same no-start symptom. A bad alternator may even let the engine start, only for it to die shortly after because the battery is no longer being recharged. That’s why we test both components together as part of every starting and charging system diagnosis.
Warning Signs of Alternator or Starter Problems
Catching a failing alternator or starter early can help you avoid a breakdown. The symptoms are often distinct enough that you can narrow down the source before bringing the vehicle in.
Alternator warning signs:
- Dashboard battery or charging light is on
- Headlights that dim or flicker, especially at idle
- Power accessories running slowly or not at all
- Burning rubber smell from the belt area
- Engine starts but dies shortly after
Starter warning signs:
- Single loud click or rapid clicking when the key is turned
- Interior lights and accessories work normally, but the engine won’t crank
- Grinding noise on startup
- Intermittent starting that requires multiple attempts
Because alternator and battery symptoms overlap significantly, we test both when starting problems bring a vehicle in.
Related Services at the Same Visit
Replacing an alternator requires removing the serpentine belt, the long belt that drives the alternator, power steering pump, and other components off the engine. Our technicians inspect it at the same time and can recommend replacement if it’s worn or near its service interval. Battery testing is standard with every starting and charging system diagnosis. If battery cables show physical damage or heavy corrosion, replacing them alongside the alternator is often the right call.
Alternator & Starter Service: Common Questions
The questions below cover what Weatherford drivers most often ask before scheduling alternator and starter service.
Is There a Warranty on Alternator & Starter Work?
Yes. All work performed at Christian Brothers Automotive Weatherford is covered by the Nice difference.® warranty: 3 years or 36,000 miles, whichever occurs last. The warranty is honored at any Christian Brothers Automotive location nationwide.
What Are Signs My Starter Is Going Bad?
Clicking or grinding noises when you turn the key, lights that work normally but an engine that won’t crank, needing multiple attempts to start, or smoke from under the hood are all signs the starter may be failing.
Why Does the Alternator Matter?
The alternator keeps the battery charged while the engine runs and powers the vehicle’s electrical components. Without a functioning alternator, the battery drains and the vehicle eventually stops running, even if it started fine.
Where Is the Alternator Located?
The alternator is typically mounted near the front of the engine, secured with brackets to the engine block. Its exact position varies by vehicle make and model.

FAQs
-
Q. "Why is the alternator important?"The alternator helps the battery maintain power. As the car is driving, it’s gaining power from the engine. During this time, the alternator is charging the battery. When the car stops running, the charge from the alternator allows the battery to continue providing power to the car.
-
Q. "What does the alternator do?"As an alternate source of power, the alternator helps many features in the car run. It helps your air conditioning maintain proper airflow, powers the radio, and turns on the headlights, among other things. It can also add power to the engine.
-
Q. "Where is the alternator located?"You’ll typically find the alternator near the front of the engine, bolted in with two brackets. One is adjustable (to allow for drive belt-tightening) while the other is fixed.
-
Q. "What are some signs that my starter is going bad?"Some common symptoms that your starter is going bad or is dead include: clicking or other odd noises, lights working in your car but the engine won't turn, taking more than one attempt to start, or smoke coming from the hood.
-
Q. "Do you offer a warranty?"As part of our Nice difference.® commitment to providing our customers the best auto service experience possible, we also offer a3-year/36,000-mile warranty on all the work that we do. We offer this warranty at every Christian Brothers Automotive nationwide, and it will be honored at any location, regardless of which branch did the initial work.
-
Q. "What is a Digital Vehicle Inspection?"With a complimentary Digital Vehicle Inspection (DVI) on every visit, you’ll see firsthand photos of your vehicle from under the hood. We’ll let you know if everything is functioning properly or if there are any areas of concern. You can even approve or deny our service recommendations, all straight from your smartphone, or you can, of course, give us a call and we’ll explain our findings in further detail.
