Frequently Asked Questions
How often should I get my brakes checked?
We recommend a professional brake inspection at least once a year or every 12,000 miles. However, because the coastal air in Virginia Beach can accelerate corrosion, having a brake check performed during every oil change is a proactive way to ensure your safety.
What causes brakes to squeak or grind?
Squealing is often caused by a small metal wear indicator on the brake pads touching the rotor to let you know they are getting thin. Grinding typically indicates that the friction material is completely gone, meaning the metal backing plate is digging into the rotors, which requires immediate brake repair.
How long does a brake replacement take?
A standard brake pad replacement can typically be completed in a few hours. If your vehicle requires more extensive work, such as replacing brake calipers or flushing the brake fluid, we will provide a clear timeline so you can plan your day accordingly.
Why is my brake pedal feeling soft or spongy?
A spongy pedal often indicates air has entered the hydraulic lines or that your brake fluid is contaminated. This is a serious safety concern that can lead to total brake failure. Our technicians can perform a diagnostic to find leaks in brake lines and hoses and restore pressure.
Does my car have disc or drum brakes?
Most modern vehicles use disc brakes on the front wheels and either disc or drum brakes on the rear. Our technicians are proficient in both systems and will meticulously examine your specific setup during your brake inspection to ensure every component is functioning optimally.
