If you're concerned about the tread on your tires, we recommend the “penny test” to check your tread depth. Simply insert a penny into your tire's tread groove with Lincoln's head upside down and facing you. If you can see all of Lincoln's head, your tread depth is less than 2/32 inch and it's time to replace your tires.
Frequently Asked Questions
What Causes Tire Misalignment?
Tire misalignment can be caused by several factors, including hitting potholes—a common occurrence in Oklahoma City—or curb impacts. Regular suspension wear can also gradually alter alignment. At Christian Brothers Automotive S. Western Ave, we recommend periodic alignment checks to help ensure all components remain in positions that match the intended settings for your vehicle. This helps prevent uneven tire wear and supports consistent vehicle handling.
How Often Should I Get a Tire Alignment?
Generally, it is good practice to have your vehicle’s alignment checked every 6,000 miles or at the point of any noticeable steering or tire issues. Oklahoma City's road conditions, featuring fluctuating climate and seasonal impacts, can make regular checks even more important for maintaining your vehicle’s alignment and safety.
Can Tire Alignment Affect Fuel Efficiency?
Yes, proper alignment has a direct impact on your vehicle’s fuel efficiency. Misalignment increases friction between the tires and road, causing your engine to work harder and consume more fuel. Ensuring your tires are properly aligned can help you save money on fuel costs, decrease tire wear, and support overall vehicle safety.
What Is a Thrust Angle Alignment?
A thrust angle alignment helps ensure that the back axle is square with the front axle. This is particularly helpful for drivers in Oklahoma City who may navigate various road conditions, because it helps all four wheels go in the same direction, which is important for vehicle control and stability.
Why Does My Steering Wheel Vibrate?
Vibration in the steering wheel can occur from misaligned wheels, leading to uneven tire contact with the road surface. This might be made worse by Oklahoma City's road conditions, which can disturb the balance of your wheel alignment. A timely alignment service at Christian Brothers Automotive S. Western Ave can address these issues and support driver comfort and vehicle safety.
