Frequently Asked Brake Service Questions
How do I know if I need brake pads, rotors, or both?
Pads and rotors wear down at different rates. Most often, replacing the pads is enough. If you hear grinding or feel vibrations, the rotors might need attention as well. In every inspection, we check both and give clear next steps based on your situation.
Is it safe to drive with brake warning lights on?
Do not drive far when the brake warning light turns on. This light means your brake system needs immediate inspection to avoid extra damage or increased risk. Schedule a checkup as soon as possible if you see this alert.
What does the Texas state inspection require for brakes?
The Texas Department of Public Safety checks stopping distance and part thickness before renewing vehicle registration. Failing brakes will cause your car to fail the required annual inspection. We follow these guidelines and explain our findings so you know if any maintenance or repair is needed before your next inspection.
How long do brake pads typically last?
This varies based on your car and driving style, but a typical range is 25,000 to 70,000 miles. We'll check your pads' specific condition during our inspection to give you a more accurate estimate.
Why does my brake pedal feel soft or "spongy"?
A spongy pedal is a safety risk, often caused by air in the brake lines or a problem with the master cylinder. This requires an immediate professional inspection to ensure your brakes function properly.
