Power Steering in Dallas

Steering Feels Wrong? Get a Professional Assessment Before Service.

Heavier steering, inconsistent effort, noises while turning, delayed response, or visible fluid beneath your vehicle can signal a steering system concern. Because these symptoms can have several causes, we assess the system before recommending a power steering fluid flush or replacing parts.

Our technicians evaluate the power steering system for potential issues involving the fluid, power steering belt, pump, hoses, steering gear, or related components. Steering that no longer responds normally can affect vehicle control, so it’s important to have the change evaluated.

Schedule Appointment for Power Steering service in Dallas by calling (972) 512-0624. Tell us what you’ve noticed while driving.

Fluid Service and Power Steering Repair Options

When our inspection indicates that fluid service is appropriate, we can perform a full power steering fluid flush using BG power steering fluid and BG power steering system cleaners. We select replacement fluid that meets the vehicle manufacturer’s standards.

Fluid service isn’t the answer to every steering problem. If we find a more serious issue involving the power steering belt or pump, we’ll explain the findings and provide repair options based on your vehicle’s needs.

What to Expect During a Steering System Inspection

Your description of when the steering feels heavy, noisy, delayed, or inconsistent gives us useful context. We then assess the system and explain the appropriate next step before performing any work.

Your visit may include:

  • Symptom Review: We discuss what you feel or hear, when it occurs, and whether you’ve noticed fluid beneath the vehicle.
  • System Assessment: We inspect the fluid condition and visible components as appropriate for the vehicle’s design.
  • Findings and Approval: We explain our recommendations in understandable language. We don’t perform service or repairs without your permission.

Power Steering is one part of the repair and maintenance care available at our Midway location. We give you practical information about your vehicle so you can make an informed decision without technical jargon or pressure.

Why Diagnosis Comes Before Power Steering Service

If your steering has become unusually hard, noisy, inconsistent, or slow to respond, tell us what the vehicle is doing and when the problem occurs. We can assess the system, discuss fluid service when necessary, or provide repair options for identified power steering belt or pump problems.

You’ll have an opportunity to review our findings and recommendations before approving any work.

Hydraulic and Electric Power-Assisted Steering

Hydraulic power steering uses fluid pressure to assist steering movement. Depending on the vehicle, the system may include a reservoir, pump, power steering belt, hoses, and steering gear. Fluid condition and leaks may be relevant when diagnosing a change in steering performance.

Electric power-assisted steering uses an electric motor rather than a conventional hydraulic pump and may not have a power steering fluid reservoir. Similar symptoms can originate from different components or vehicle systems, so the appropriate service depends on the vehicle’s design and our inspection findings.

Whether your vehicle needs fluid service, further diagnosis, or component repairs, we can explain the available options before you decide how to proceed.

FAQs

  • Q. "How do I know if my power steering is starting to fail?"
3 common signs are that your wheel is requiring more force to turn, whining noise when turning, or your steering shakes when idle. If you are worried about your power steering failing, contact your local Christian Brothers today to have our experienced technicians take a look.
  • Q. "How often do I need to get my power steering fluid replaced?"
The average recommendation is between 40,000 and 80,000 miles, but it varies depending on your manufacturer's recommendations.
  • Q. "Why do I need to change my power steering fluid?"
With time, the power steering fluid in your vehicle loses its potency and can become contaminated. Fluid with foreign materials and dirt floating around in it is less efficient, meaning the pump works harder and is worn down faster. Putting new fluid in is much more cost-effective than buying a new pump.
  • Q. "What do I do if my power steering fails while driving?"
If your power steering fails while driving, it will require quite a bit of force to turn the wheel. Carefully pull to the side of the roadand call a tow truck to safely get your vehicle to an automotive shop.
  • Q. "What is a Digital Vehicle Inspection?"
With a complimentary Digital Vehicle Inspection (DVI) on every visit, you’ll see firsthand photos of your vehicle from under the hood. We’ll let you know if everything is functioning properly or if there are any areas of concern. You can even approve or deny our service recommendations, all straight from your smartphone, or you can, of course, give us a call and we’ll explain our findings in further detail.
  • Q. "Do you offer a warranty?"
As part of our Nice difference.® commitment to providing our customers the best auto service experience possible, we also offer a 3-year/36,000-mile warranty on all the work that we do. We offer this warranty at every Christian Brothers Automotive nationwide, and it will be honored at any location, regardless of which branch did the initial work.
