If you're concerned about the tread on your tires, we recommend the “penny test” to check your tread depth. Simply insert a penny into your tire's tread groove with Lincoln's head upside down and facing you. If you can see all of Lincoln's head, your tread depth is less than 2/32 inch and it's time to replace your tires.
Why Correct Alignment is More Than Just a Convenience
An improper alignment is more than just a minor annoyance; it’s a serious issue that can lead to costly repairs and unsafe driving conditions. A misaligned vehicle can cause your tires to wear unevenly and prematurely, shortening their life and increasing the risk of a dangerous blowout. By addressing alignment issues promptly, you can protect your tire investment and enhance your safety on the road.
Be on the lookout for these key indicators that your vehicle may be in need of an alignment service:
- Uneven Tire Wear: One of the most common signs of a misaligned car is uneven tire wear, where the tread on one side of a tire is more worn down than the other. You may also notice a "cupped" or "scalloped" pattern on the tire's surface.
- A Crooked Steering Wheel: If you're driving straight on a flat road and your steering wheel is not centered, it's a strong sign that your alignment is off.
- Vehicle Pulling: Does your vehicle consistently pull or drift to the left or right when you release the steering wheel? This is a classic symptom of a misaligned suspension.
- Vibrations and Shaking: An alignment issue can cause your steering wheel, floorboard, or even the entire vehicle to vibrate, particularly at higher speeds.
- Poor Handling: If your vehicle feels less responsive, unstable, or difficult to control, a faulty alignment could be the root cause.
The Long-Term Benefits of a Well-Aligned Vehicle
A proper wheel alignment offers more than just immediate benefits. It can significantly improve your vehicle's overall performance and efficiency. When your wheels are correctly aligned, it reduces rolling resistance, which can lead to better fuel economy. It also minimizes stress on your car's suspension and steering components, helping to extend their lifespan and save you from more expensive repairs down the road. For this reason, we recommend having your vehicle's alignment checked every 6,000 miles or every six months as a crucial part of your preventative maintenance.
