Brake Service Backed by J.D. Power’s #1 Customer Satisfaction Ranking
Christian Brothers Automotive Collierville is ranked #1 in Customer Satisfaction Among Aftermarket Full-Service Maintenance and Repair Providers in the J.D. Power 2025 Aftermarket Service Index (ASI) Study, the sixth consecutive time we’ve earned that recognition. For J.D. Power 2025 award information, visit jdpower.com/awards.
Every brake service includes a complimentary Digital Vehicle Inspection (DVI). Before any work begins, you receive photos and videos of exactly what our technicians found, sent directly to your phone. You review the findings and approve or decline any recommendation through the DVI report or by phone. No pressure, no surprises.
Because Bart Fabacher operates this location directly, the standard of care here isn’t set by a distant franchise office. It’s set by someone who’s here when you drop off your car.
Warning Signs Your Brakes Need Attention
Some brake problems announce themselves clearly. Others develop gradually until a routine stop turns into something urgent. These are the symptoms Collierville drivers shouldn’t ignore:
- Squealing or squeaking when you apply the brakes typically points to worn brake pads.
- Grinding noise suggests metal-on-metal contact, meaning pads may be fully worn and rotors are at risk of damage.
- Soft or spongy pedal can indicate air in the brake lines or a loss of brake fluid.
- Pulling to one side during braking may point to a sticking caliper or uneven pad wear.
- Vibration through the pedal or steering wheel often signals warped rotors.
How the Brake System Works
Understanding what’s happening inside your brakes makes it easier to follow what we’re looking at during an inspection. Most vehicles use disc brakes on the front axle and either disc or drum brakes on the rear.
Disc Brakes, Drum Brakes, & the Hydraulic System
Disc brakes use a caliper to clamp brake pads against a rotor, generating friction that slows the wheel. Drum brakes work differently: wheel cylinders press brake shoes outward against the inside of a drum. Both systems depend on the master cylinder, which converts foot pressure into hydraulic pressure and distributes it through brake lines to each wheel.
Brake Fluid, ABS, & Hardware
Brake fluid is hygroscopic, meaning it absorbs moisture from the air over time. As moisture builds up, the fluid’s boiling point drops and braking performance can degrade. Regular brake fluid exchanges address this before it becomes a problem. The ABS (Anti-Lock Braking System) prevents wheel lockup during hard braking, helping you maintain steering control. Brake hardware, including the clips, springs, and pins that keep pads properly seated, is easy to overlook but important for even wear and quiet operation.
What to Expect at Your Brake Service Appointment
Our brake repair process is built around transparency at every step. Here’s how it works:
- Step 1: Schedule online or by phone. Describing what you’re hearing or feeling helps our team prepare for accurate, efficient service.
- Step 2: Diagnostics and Inspection begin when you drop off your vehicle. Our technicians use manufacturer-equivalent diagnostic equipment to assess your full brake system.
- Step 3: Digital Vehicle Inspection Report is sent to you by text with photos and videos of our findings and any recommendations.
- Step 4: Review and Approval happens on your terms. A service advisor walks you through the findings, and you approve or decline any work through the DVI or by phone.
- Step 5: Work Performed or Scheduled. Most brake pad replacement and brake repair work is completed the same day, with scheduling available based on parts and your availability.
