Brake repair doesn’t have to be stressful. Our service process keeps you informed at every step, starting with a Digital Vehicle Inspection (DVI) that sends you actual photos of your vehicle’s brake system before any work begins. Nothing moves forward without your approval.
1. Schedule Your Appointment
Whether scheduling online or over the phone be sure and let us know what you're experiencing so we can provide fast and accurate service advice.
2. Diagnostics and Inspections
Drop off your vehicle and the shop will get to work with inspections and diagnostics using the same equipment as the manufacturers to determine issues and next steps.
3. Digital Vehicle Inspection Report and Estimate
Following the diagnosis we will text you a digital vehicle inspection report, containing pictures and videos of our findings and recommendations.
4. Review and Approval
A service advisor will reach out to walk you through the findings and recommendations to determine how you would like to proceed, or you can approve work directly in your DVI.
5. Work Performed or Scheduled
Most work can be completed immediately, or scheduled based on parts and customer availability.
See Your Brakes Before We Touch Them
Every visit to Christian Brothers Automotive Cedar Rapids includes a complimentary Digital Vehicle Inspection (DVI). Your technician photographs the actual condition of your brake components and sends those images directly to your smartphone. You review the findings and approve or deny any recommended service, whether you’re in our waiting area or across town.
We don’t perform work without your explicit, informed consent. That’s not a policy footnote. It’s how we operate on every vehicle, every visit.
Know When Your Brakes Need Attention
Catching brake issues early can help prevent more extensive repairs and helps keep you and others safe on the road. Here’s what Cedar Rapids drivers should watch for, and what we cover when you bring your vehicle in.
Warning Signs That Warrant a Brake Inspection
- Squealing or grinding noises when braking, which often indicate worn brake pads or metal-on-metal contact
- A soft or spongy pedal that travels farther than normal before the brakes engage
- Vibration or pulsing through the brake pedal or steering wheel during braking
- The vehicle pulling to one side when you apply the brakes
- A brake warning light or ABS light illuminated on your dashboard
Brake Services We Provide
Our technicians are equipped to address every part of the hydraulic brake system. Brake repair in Cedar Rapids can range from a straightforward pad swap to more involved system work. Services include:
- Brake pad and shoe replacement
- Rotor and drum service
- Brake fluid exchange
- Hydraulic system repairs (calipers, wheel cylinders, and brake lines)
- ABS and electronic diagnostics
- Parking brake service
- Brake hardware replacement
A soft pedal, grinding, or a lit warning light may require component removal or a road test beyond a visual check. We’ll document everything we find through the DVI before recommending any path forward.
How Often Should Brakes Be Serviced?
Brake pad lifespan varies considerably, typically ranging from around 30,000 to 70,000 miles depending on the vehicle, driving habits, and pad material. Annual brake inspections or checks every 12,000 miles are a common general guideline, though Iowa’s wet and icy winters can accelerate wear. Pre-winter and post-winter inspections are a practical habit for Cedar Rapids drivers.
Brake Fluid Exchange
Brake fluid absorbs moisture over time, which lowers its boiling point and can affect braking performance. A brake fluid exchange is generally recommended every 30,000 miles or two years, though your owner’s manual provides the authoritative interval for your specific make and model.
Extended Warranty Coverage
If you carry an extended vehicle warranty, we work with all major extended warranty providers. When you schedule your brake service in Cedar Rapids, let us know your coverage and we can confirm what applies before any work begins.
