What European Vehicle Service Actually Involves
European vehicles don’t follow the same maintenance intervals or fluid specifications as domestic models. Diagnostic protocols for their electronic control modules require scan tools that communicate with manufacturer-specific software. Using the wrong tool can mean incomplete data and, ultimately, incomplete repairs. Our ASE-certified technicians work with manufacturer-quality equipment built to handle that level of complexity accurately.
Schedule European Services at Christian Brothers Automotive Billings by calling (406) 420-6648. We’re here for Billings drivers who want dealership-level diagnostic accuracy without the dealership experience.
Several service needs come up consistently with European makes, and each has specifications that differ from what you’d find on a domestic vehicle.
Synthetic Oil Requirements
Makes like BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, and Volkswagen typically require synthetic oil meeting specific manufacturer standards, often rated to European ACEA specifications rather than standard API ratings. Using the wrong oil grade can shorten engine life and can affect manufacturer coverage.
Timing Belt & Chain Service
Timing belt and timing chain replacement intervals vary significantly across European makes and models. Some require service well before the generic 100,000-mile benchmark. Our technicians reference manufacturer-specific intervals to determine when your vehicle actually needs this service.
Brake Fluid Specifications
Many European vehicles require brake fluid that meets specific DOT ratings and manufacturer standards. Moisture contamination can degrade braking performance faster in high-performance systems, and flushing to the correct specification is part of keeping them performing as designed.
These aren’t areas where approximation works. European vehicle service requires the right specifications, the right tools, and technicians who know how to use them. That’s what we bring to every appointment at Christian Brothers Automotive Billings.
