How Our Check Engine Light Services Work
When a warning light comes on, three things matter most: accuracy, clarity, and reliability. Our process is built around all three.
Step 1: Full Diagnostic Scan
Our check engine light diagnostics go beyond basic ODB scanner codes. Stored trouble codes point toward a system, but they rarely tell the whole story. Our technicians analyze live sensor data and apply their training to pinpoint the actual root cause, whether that’s a mass airflow sensor reading out of range, an evaporative emissions leak, or an ignition coil misfire the code alone wouldn’t have identified.
Step 2: Plain-Language Explanation
Before any repair begins, we walk you through what we found. No technical jargon, no pressure. You’ll understand exactly what’s happening with your vehicle and what it can take to fix it, so you can make an informed decision.
Step 3: Honest, Reliable Repair
We help get you back on the road safely. Your vehicle’s longevity matters as much to us as resolving the immediate issue, so we repair what needs repairing and tell you honestly if something can wait.
1. Schedule Your Appointment
Whether scheduling online or over the phone be sure and let us know what you're experiencing so we can provide fast and accurate service advice.
2. Diagnostics and Inspections
Drop off your vehicle and the shop will get to work with inspections and diagnostics using the same equipment as the manufacturers to determine issues and next steps.
3. Digital Vehicle Inspection Report and Estimate
Following the diagnosis we will text you a digital vehicle inspection report, containing pictures and videos of our findings and recommendations.
4. Review and Approval
A service advisor will reach out to walk you through the findings and recommendations to determine how you would like to proceed, or you can approve work directly in your DVI.
5. Work Performed or Scheduled
Most work can be completed immediately, or scheduled based on parts and customer availability.
A Shop That Works Around Your Day
Leaving your vehicle with us shouldn’t turn your schedule upside down. Our complimentary shuttle service gets you where you need to go while we handle the diagnostic and repair. Our owner/operators are on-site every day, so there’s someone accountable for your experience. The shop is welcoming and comfortable because we think the way you’re treated matters as much as the work being done.
Steady Light, Flashing Light: What Your Dashboard Is Telling You
Not every check engine light signals the same level of urgency. A steady, solid light means the vehicle’s engine control module has logged a fault worth investigating, but you can generally drive to a shop without immediate risk. A flashing light is a different matter. It signals an active misfire, a condition where unburned fuel passes into the exhaust and can damage the catalytic converter quickly. If your light is flashing, pull over safely and call us at (940) 283-0521.
At Christian Brothers Automotive Aubrey, we treat every customer like a neighbor: honest answers, no unnecessary upsells, and repairs done with integrity. Aubrey drivers can reach us by phone or through our online contact form to schedule a check engine light diagnostic at a time that works for them.
Why a Code Reader Isn’t the Same as a Diagnosis
Parts stores offer free code reads, and while that’s a useful starting point, a stored OBD-II diagnostic trouble code identifies which system triggered the fault, not what caused it. A P0420 code points to catalytic converter efficiency, but the underlying cause might be a failing oxygen sensor feeding bad data to the engine control module. A trained technician reading live sensor data can tell the difference. Replacing parts based on a code alone often means replacing the wrong one.
How Aubrey’s Climate Stresses Common Components
Extreme heat and stop-and-go driving are hard on the components that most commonly trigger a check engine light in Aubrey. Oxygen sensors degrade faster under sustained high temperatures. Wiring insulation can crack, creating intermittent faults that are difficult to catch with a single scan. Alternators running hard through long, hot commutes can wear sooner. Knowing how local driving conditions contribute to these failure points is part of what makes a thorough diagnostic more valuable than a quick code pull.

FAQs
-
Q. "What is the difference between a steadily lit and a flashing check engine light?"A steadily lit light means that a sensor is sending a signal to your vehicle's computer that something is wrong or it could simply mean that the sensor is out. If your check engine light is flashing, however, that means there is a serious issue and you should stop driving immediately.
-
Q. "Why is my check engine light on but nothing seems to be wrong with my vehicle?"If nothing within your vehicle stands out, then it is possible that it is just a minor issue such as a loose gas cap or a bad O2 sensor. It is still recommended to see a mechanic if the light doesn't disappear to check for any larger issues.
-
Q. "Do you offer a warranty?"As part of our Nice difference.® commitment to providing our customers the best auto service experience possible, we also offer a3-year/36,000-mile warranty on all the work that we do. We offer this warranty at every Christian Brothers Automotive nationwide, and it will be honored at any location, regardless of which branch did the initial work.
-
Q. "Can you provide service under my extended warranty?"Yes. At Christian Brothers Automotive, we work with all major extended warranty providers to make needed repairs for our customers. If you have an extended warranty, you can discuss your carrier with our team when scheduling an appointment and confirm that the work will be covered. You can find a partial list of the extended warranty companies we work with here.
-
Q. "What to do if your check engine light turns on?"We recommend heading to your local auto shop as soon as you are able. This is typically a sign that there is an abnormality within your engine.
-
Q. "Is it safe to drive your car when the check engine light is on?"It depends. If you are experiencing other noticeable issues with your vehicle, it may be best to pull over. Otherwise, it is typically okay to drive to your local auto shop. You will want to get this checked sooner rather than later to avoid being stranded with a broken-down car.
