Frequently Asked Questions
How often should I schedule a transmission fluid exchange?
Most manufacturers recommend service every 30,000 to 60,000 miles, but local Roanoke heat may require more frequent attention. Our technicians evaluate your fluid's color and smell to determine if it has oxidized prematurely from heavy traffic.
Clean fluid is vital for preventing internal friction. By maintaining fresh lubricants, you ensure smooth gear transitions and protect your vehicle’s overall longevity during intense North Texas summers.
Is a transmission rebuild better than a full replacement?
A transmission rebuild replaces only the worn internal parts, which can be a cost-effective way to extend your car's life. However, if the main housing or major gears are damaged, a full transmission replacement is often more reliable.
We provide a detailed estimate for both paths. Our goal is to help you choose the option that offers the best long-term value for your specific budget and driving needs.
What causes the transmission warning light to turn on?
This light is triggered by sensors that monitor fluid temperature, gear ratios, and hydraulic pressure. It often signals a minor electronic fault or a developing mechanical issue that needs immediate professional transmission checks to prevent failure.
Ignoring this light can lead to catastrophic damage. Bringing your car to our transmission shop early allows us to potentially fix a small sensor issue before it ruins the entire unit.
Can I drive my car if it is leaking transmission fluid?
Driving with a leak is dangerous because low fluid levels lead to overheating and gear slipping. Without proper pressure, the transmission cannot function correctly, and you risk a total breakdown on busy routes like Highway 114.
We recommend addressing leaks immediately. Our team can quickly identify if the leak is from a simple gasket, a cooling line, or a more serious internal seal during your visit.
How do I know if I need a transmission mechanic or a general repair?
While many shops do general work, a specialized transmission mechanic has the specific diagnostic tools required for complex gearboxes. Transmissions are highly technical and require precise calibration that general shops may lack the equipment to perform.
Our ASE-certified technicians have the training to handle these specific challenges. We ensure your vehicle's computer and mechanical components are perfectly synchronized for a smooth, factory-level driving experience.

FAQs
-
Q. "What factors determine the price of transmission repair?"Many different factors go into determining costs of transmission repair. The major factor is what type of vehicle you drive. The year, make and model of the car, determine how much parts and labor will cost. Another factor is how much damage the transmission has sustained. Your transmission should last a minimum of 100,000 miles by servicing your transmission on a regular basis.
-
Q. "What does automatic transmission service include?"Fluid is first drained from the pan during an automatic transmission service. A new transmission filter is installed with a new pan gasket once the pan has been removed. Finally, fresh automatic transmission fluid (ATF) is used to refill the vehicle.
-
Q. "Is there a difference between a transmission fluid change and flush?"During a transmission fluid and filter change, it’s only the fluid in the pan that is drained and replaced with new ATF. Four to five quarts of fluid will typically be replaced in this process, while nine to thirteen quarts are replaced during a full transmission fluid flush. The difference in amounts is because the complete flush drains the entire system.
