Frequently Asked Questions
How Often Should I Change My Transmission Fluid?
We recommend a transmission fluid change every 30,000 to 60,000 miles, depending on your manufacturer’s guidelines. If you drive frequently in Murfreesboro traffic or tow heavy loads, you may need service sooner. Fresh fluid helps prevent overheating and supports the life of internal components.
What Is the Difference Between a Flush & a Fluid Change?
A fluid change drains the pan and replaces a portion of the fluid in the system, since fluid held in the torque converter and internal passages doesn’t drain out. A transmission flush uses a machine to push all old fluid and contaminants out of the torque converter and cooler lines for a deeper clean. For higher-mileage vehicles especially, a flush can be the better choice for long-term performance.
How Do I Know If I Need a Rebuild or a Replacement?
It depends on the extent of internal damage and the overall condition of your vehicle. A transmission rebuild replaces worn internal parts while keeping the original casing, which can be cost-effective when damage is limited. A full replacement swaps the entire unit and is often the better path when damage is widespread. Thorough diagnostics are the starting point for any recommendation we make.
Do You Service Manual Transmissions?
Yes, we service both automatic and manual transmission systems. Manual transmissions often require clutch adjustments or fluid changes to help prevent grinding and maintain smooth shifting. Our ASE-certified technicians diagnose and address the specific issues that affect manual gearboxes, from worn synchros to clutch hydraulic problems.
Why Is My Transmission Slipping?
Slipping is commonly caused by low fluid, worn bands, or solenoid failure. It feels like the vehicle changes gears unexpectedly or loses power during acceleration. This is a serious condition that requires immediate attention. Continuing to drive with a slipping transmission can lead to total failure and a complete replacement, so early diagnosis matters.

FAQs
-
Q. "What factors determine the price of transmission repair?"Many different factors go into determining costs of transmission repair. The major factor is what type of vehicle you drive. The year, make and model of the car, determine how much parts and labor will cost. Another factor is how much damage the transmission has sustained. Your transmission should last a minimum of 100,000 miles by servicing your transmission on a regular basis.
-
Q. "What does automatic transmission service include?"Fluid is first drained from the pan during an automatic transmission service. A new transmission filter is installed with a new pan gasket once the pan has been removed. Finally, fresh automatic transmission fluid (ATF) is used to refill the vehicle.
-
Q. "Is there a difference between a transmission fluid change and flush?"During a transmission fluid and filter change, it’s only the fluid in the pan that is drained and replaced with new ATF. Four to five quarts of fluid will typically be replaced in this process, while nine to thirteen quarts are replaced during a full transmission fluid flush. The difference in amounts is because the complete flush drains the entire system.
