When your vehicle arrives, our technicians perform a thorough inspection using the same diagnostic equipment manufacturers use to evaluate the charging system. A scan tool reads any stored error codes, live data from the charging system is analyzed, and a load test on the battery distinguishes a failing alternator from a failing battery.

Signs Your Alternator or Starter May Be Failing

Catching a problem early can help you avoid a breakdown. Here are the warning signs worth knowing for each component.

Alternator warning signs:

  • Battery warning light illuminated while the engine is running
  • Headlights or interior lights that dim or flicker as engine speed changes
  • Electrical accessories, power windows, radio, climate controls, responding sluggishly
  • A battery that tests fine but drains after driving
  • A burning smell near the alternator belt area

Starter warning signs:

  • A single loud click or rapid clicking when turning the key with no engine crank
