Following the diagnosis we will text you a digital vehicle inspection report, containing pictures and videos of our findings and recommendations.
4. Review and Approval
A service advisor will reach out to walk you through the findings and recommendations to determine how you would like to proceed, or you can approve work directly in your DVI.
5. Work Performed or Scheduled
Most work can be completed immediately, or scheduled based on parts and customer availability.

Common Check Engine Light Causes
The warning light can point to dozens of different issues. These are the triggers our technicians encounter most often:
- Loose or faulty fuel cap: One of the most common and easily resolved causes. A failing seal allows fuel vapors to escape and trips emissions-related codes.
- Failing oxygen sensor: Oxygen sensors monitor the air-to-fuel ratio. When one fails, fuel calculations go off, reducing efficiency and increasing emissions over time.
- Catalytic converter failure: A degraded catalytic converter can’t properly convert exhaust pollutants and often triggers secondary oxygen sensor codes, making the diagnosis more involved.
- Worn spark plugs or ignition coils: These cause engine misfires that, left unaddressed, can damage the catalytic converter and turn a modest repair into a much larger one.
- Failing mass airflow sensor: When this sensor fails, fuel delivery becomes erratic, leading to rough idle, stalling, or a noticeable loss of power.
- Deteriorated sensors or wiring connectors: West Michigan’s road salt and temperature extremes accelerate corrosion on underbody sensors and wiring connectors, common check engine light triggers that require physical inspection to confirm.
Why a Code Reader Isn’t Enough
Consumer OBD readers, the kind available at auto parts stores, retrieve the same stored trouble codes our scan tools do. What they can’t do is inspect the system. A code for an oxygen sensor might actually point to the sensor itself, a wiring fault, an exhaust leak, or a component upstream affecting the reading. Replacing the part the code names without verifying the cause is how drivers end up back in the shop with the same light on.
Our technicians verify every code with hands-on testing of the affected sensors, wiring, and related components before recommending anything. The Digital Vehicle Inspection documents that process with photos, so you can see the findings yourself rather than take our word for it. After diagnosis and repair, we reset the trouble codes and check that the warning light stays off before the vehicle leaves our shop.
