Our Simple Three-Step Process
1. Schedule Your Appointment
Whether scheduling online or over the phone be sure and let us know what you're experiencing so we can provide fast and accurate service advice.
2. Diagnostics and Inspections
Drop off your vehicle and the shop will get to work with inspections and diagnostics using the same equipment as the manufacturers to determine issues and next steps.
3. Digital Vehicle Inspection Report and Estimate
Following the diagnosis we will text you a digital vehicle inspection report, containing pictures and videos of our findings and recommendations.
4. Review and Approval
A service advisor will reach out to walk you through the findings and recommendations to determine how you would like to proceed, or you can approve work directly in your DVI.
5. Work Performed or Scheduled
Most work can be completed immediately, or scheduled based on parts and customer availability.
See Every Finding Before You Approve a Repair
After our technicians complete their diagnosis, we send you a Digital Vehicle Inspection Report with photos and videos of exactly what they found. You can see the condition of components yourself rather than taking anyone’s word for it.
A service advisor walks you through the findings and recommendations so you can decide how to proceed. You can approve work directly through the report or discuss your options in person. Either way, no repair begins until you’ve reviewed everything and given the go-ahead.
What Gilbert Drivers Should Know About the Check Engine Light
Gilbert’s summer heat doesn’t just strain your air conditioning. Sustained temperatures above 110°F accelerate wear on oxygen sensors, mass airflow sensors, ignition coils, and cooling system components. Stop-and-go traffic on the major corridors adds to that stress. The result is that Gilbert drivers tend to see check engine lights triggered by faults that build gradually rather than from a single dramatic event.
Common Check Engine Light Causes in Gilbert
The most frequent causes we see include oxygen sensor faults, catalytic converter degradation, loose or faulty fuel caps, ignition coil and spark plug failures, and mass airflow sensor problems. Arizona’s climate places unique demands on these systems, and our maintenance recommendations account for those local conditions.
Maricopa County Emissions Testing
There’s a practical reason not to delay beyond the repair itself. Maricopa County’s vehicle emissions testing program requires vehicles to pass an OBD-II readiness monitor check, and an illuminated check engine light can cause a test failure that may hold up your registration renewal until the underlying fault is resolved. Drivers who have recently had a check engine light cleared without a repair may also find that readiness monitors haven’t completed a full drive cycle, which can result in a test failure even with the light off. Getting the fault properly diagnosed and repaired at Christian Brothers Automotive Gilbert at Higley and Baseline can help support your next emissions test.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is It Safe to Drive with a Check Engine Light On?
It depends on what the light is telling you. A flashing check engine light means stop or minimize driving immediately and have the vehicle inspected as soon as possible. A solid light with no change in how the vehicle drives can generally be driven to the shop, but it should be addressed promptly. Continuing to drive without diagnosis risks compounding the original fault.
What If the Check Engine Light Came Back After a Repair?
A returning check engine light may mean the root cause wasn’t fully resolved, a related fault wasn’t addressed, or a replacement part is faulty. The right step is a new diagnostic. Bring the vehicle back in, and we can identify what’s still triggering the light.
The Light Turned Off on Its Own. Is the Problem Gone?
Not necessarily. A check engine light can clear itself when the engine control module stops detecting a particular fault condition, but the underlying issue often remains. Stored codes are still retrievable by a technician, and the fault may recur. A code scan can confirm what was recorded even if the light isn’t currently on.
What Does the Free Code Scan Include?
Our complimentary Check-Engine Light Code Scan reads your vehicle’s onboard information system for stored diagnostic trouble codes while you wait. It’s a starting point. Additional testing may be required to diagnose the vehicle completely before any work begins.

FAQs
-
Q. "What is the difference between a steadily lit and a flashing check engine light?"A steadily lit light means that a sensor is sending a signal to your vehicle's computer that something is wrong or it could simply mean that the sensor is out. If your check engine light is flashing, however, that means there is a serious issue and you should stop driving immediately.
-
Q. "Why is my check engine light on but nothing seems to be wrong with my vehicle?"If nothing within your vehicle stands out, then it is possible that it is just a minor issue such as a loose gas cap or a bad O2 sensor. It is still recommended to see a mechanic if the light doesn't disappear to check for any larger issues.
-
Q. "Do you offer a warranty?"As part of our Nice difference.® commitment to providing our customers the best auto service experience possible, we also offer a3-year/36,000-mile warranty on all the work that we do. If you have an extended warranty, you can discuss your carrier with our team when scheduling an appointment and confirm that the work will be covered. You can find a partial list of the extended warranty companies we work with here.
-
Q. "What to do if your check engine light turns on?"We recommend heading to your local auto shop as soon as you are able. This is typically a sign that there is an abnormality within your engine.
-
Q. "Is it safe to drive your car when the check engine light is on?"It depends. If you are experiencing other noticeable issues with your vehicle, it may be best to pull over. Otherwise, it is typically okay to drive to your local auto shop. You will want to get this checked sooner rather than later to avoid being stranded with a broken-down car.
