Understanding Your Vehicle's Transmission
Think of your transmission as the sophisticated link between your engine and your wheels. This intricate network of gears and sensors precisely controls how much power is transferred to your tires at any given time. By managing this power flow, the transmission ensures you have optimal control and a smooth ride, whether you're accelerating on the highway or navigating city streets.
This constant, high-energy activity generates a significant amount of heat. To protect against this, your transmission relies on specialized transmission fluid. This fluid acts as a lubricant and coolant, preventing the gears from overheating and sustaining damage. Over time, however, this fluid degrades and loses its effectiveness. As it becomes less efficient, your transmission becomes more susceptible to the damaging effects of excessive heat, which can lead to premature wear and tear on its internal components.
Partner With Our Stockbridge Team
Our transmission specialists at Christian Brothers Automotive Eagles Landing recommend a proactive approach to transmission maintenance. For vehicles with an automatic transmission, we suggest a complete fluid exchange every 50,000 miles. While some manufacturer-recommended service intervals may be longer, they often don't account for the daily stop-and-go traffic and varying driving conditions that drivers in Stockbridge face. Proactive maintenance is key to extending the life of your transmission and avoiding major repairs down the line.
Once your vehicle approaches the 50,000-mile mark, we invite you to our Stockbridge location for a comprehensive transmission service. Our expert technicians will perform a thorough fluid flush, replacing the old, degraded fluid with fresh, high-quality fluid. This simple but essential service helps to maintain the health of your transmission, ensuring it continues to operate efficiently and reliably for many miles to come. At Christian Brothers Automotive Eagles Landing, we believe in providing a superior service experience based on honesty, integrity, and a commitment to excellence. We are dedicated to keeping your vehicle running at its best.

FAQs
-
Q. "What factors determine the price of transmission repair?"Many different factors go into determining costs of transmission repair. The major factor is what type of vehicle you drive. The year, make and model of the car, determine how much parts and labor will cost. Another factor is how much damage the transmission has sustained. Your transmission should last a minimum of 100,000 miles by servicing your transmission on a regular basis.
-
Q. "What does automatic transmission service include?"Fluid is first drained from the pan during an automatic transmission service. A new transmission filter is installed with a new pan gasket once the pan has been removed. Finally, fresh automatic transmission fluid (ATF) is used to refill the vehicle.
-
Q. "Is there a difference between a transmission fluid change and flush?"During a transmission fluid and filter change, it’s only the fluid in the pan that is drained and replaced with new ATF. Four to five quarts of fluid will typically be replaced in this process, while nine to thirteen quarts are replaced during a full transmission fluid flush. The difference in amounts is because the complete flush drains the entire system.
