Frequently driving your car with little fuel can harm your engine over time because the gasoline at the bottom of your tank is usually the dirtiest. When this part is used for fuel, you run a higher risk of dirt reaching your fuel line and engine.
Frequently Asked Questions
How often should I get my engine checked?
We recommend a comprehensive engine check at least once a year or every 12,000 miles. However, because the Florida heat puts extra stress on your cooling system, having your belts, hoses, and fluid levels checked during every oil change is a smart way to prevent an overheating engine. Proactive inspections are much more affordable than emergency repairs.
What should I do if my check engine light comes on?
You should schedule a professional diagnostic appointment as soon as possible. While the light can indicate something minor like a loose gas cap, it often signals a sensor failure or an emissions problem that could lead to engine damage if ignored. Accurate engine diagnostics are the only way to identify the specific fault code stored in your car's computer.
Is a rebuilt engine better than an engine replacement?
The best choice depends on the age of your vehicle and the extent of the damage. A remanufactured engine often comes with a better warranty and factory-level reliability, whereas a rebuild focuses on replacing only the worn components of your existing unit. Our technicians in Brandon will walk you through the pros and cons of each option for your situation.
Why is my engine making a knocking sound?
Engine knocking can be caused by various issues, including low oil pressure, worn bearings, or improper fuel detonation. Because this sound often indicates internal mechanical stress, you should have it inspected immediately. Ignoring a knock can lead to a catastrophic failure that requires a full engine replacement to get your vehicle back on the road.
Can regular maintenance prevent engine overheating?
Absolutely. Routine engine maintenance includes flushing the cooling system, replacing old coolant, and checking the thermostat and water pump. By ensuring your cooling system is clean and pressurized, you prevent the buildup of rust and scale that causes an overheating engine. This simple care is essential for navigating Florida's high-temperature driving conditions.
