Don’t Wait on a Burned-Out Light
A failed headlight or taillight reduces how well you see the road and how easily other drivers can see you, especially at night. The longer it goes unreplaced, the greater the risk. We use manufacturer-quality equipment on every repair so the fix holds and your vehicle meets Texas lighting requirements from the moment you leave our shop.
Recognizing When Your Lights Need Attention
Some lighting problems are obvious. Others are easy to miss until things get worse. Watch for these signs:
- Flickering or intermittent light: Often points to a failing bulb or a loose connection in the wiring
- Dimmer-than-normal beam: Halogen bulbs degrade gradually, so reduced output can sneak up on you
- Low beam out, high beam working: These use separate bulbs; one can fail while the other still functions
- Cracked or water-damaged housing: A compromised headlight assembly typically needs full replacement, not just a bulb swap. Moisture inside the assembly can cause fogging, electrical problems, and premature bulb failure
- Foggy or yellowed lens: Oxidation of the polycarbonate lens from UV exposure and road debris clouds the output of even a healthy bulb
If you’re unsure whether you need a bulb or a full assembly, our Digital Vehicle Inspection takes the guesswork out of it. We show you the photos and explain the options.

Halogen vs. HID: What Drives Replacement Timing
The type of bulb in your vehicle affects both how often it needs replacing and what the replacement costs. Halogen bulbs are the most common and typically run $15 to $20 each, with a lifespan of roughly 450 to 1,000 hours. HID (high-intensity discharge) headlights last considerably longer, around 2,000 to 3,000 hours or approximately 90,000 miles, but individual bulbs often cost over $100. Knowing which type your vehicle uses sets realistic expectations for repair cost and replacement frequency.
Texas Lighting Law After the 2025 Inspection Change
As of January 1, 2025, House Bill 3297 ended the requirement for non-commercial Texas vehicles to pass an annual safety inspection before registration. That change doesn’t remove the legal obligation to keep your lights working. Texas Transportation Code Chapter 547 still requires functioning headlamps, at least two tail lamps emitting red light visible from a set distance, stop lamps, and reflectors. Driving with non-functioning headlights or taillights remains against Texas law regardless of inspection status. If a failed light gets flagged during a traffic stop, the cost of the ticket can exceed the cost of the repair.
