Power Steering Service in Oviedo, FL

Fluid Flushes, Belt & Pump Diagnostics from ASE-Certified Technicians

Our certified technicians assess your hydraulic power steering system from fluid condition to belt and pump health, then perform a power steering fluid flush when the inspection shows it’s needed. We use BG power steering fluid and BG power steering system cleaners for every flush procedure, and all new fluid meets the manufacturer’s standards for your specific vehicle. When a deeper problem surfaces, such as a worn power steering belt or a struggling power steering pump, we walk you through repair options clearly and without pressure.

Christian Brothers Automotive Oviedo is owned and operated by George and Carol Beck, who are on-site daily. The people accountable for your vehicle’s service aren’t in a corporate office somewhere. They’re here, serving Oviedo and Winter Springs neighbors the way they’d want to be served themselves.

How We Diagnose & Resolve Power Steering Problems

Every vehicle that comes into our shop receives a complimentary Digital Vehicle Inspection (DVI): a photo-documented review of your vehicle’s major systems sent directly to your smartphone. You see what our technicians see, approve any work from your phone, and never have to take anyone’s word for it. Our free Courtesy Inspection also covers suspension and related systems, giving our team an early look at steering-related concerns before they develop into larger repairs.

Power steering fluid loses its ability to transmit hydraulic pressure as it picks up contaminants over time, forcing the pump to work harder than it should. Our technicians diagnose whether the issue is fluid condition, a deteriorating power steering belt, or a failing power steering pump, then present your repair options with the inspection photos to back them up.

Steering system warning signs to watch for:

  • The steering wheel requires noticeably more effort to turn than usual
  • A whining, groaning, or squealing noise occurs when turning
  • The steering wheel shakes or vibrates at idle

The hydraulic power steering system lets you turn your vehicle with a fraction of the physical effort it would otherwise take, using hydraulic pressure to assist the movement of the wheels. When the system is working correctly, steering feels effortless. When it isn’t, driving becomes noticeably harder and less safe. Understanding how it works helps you recognize when something is off and make a confident call about service.

How a Hydraulic Power Steering System Works

The power steering pump pressurizes steering fluid and delivers that hydraulic force to assist you in turning the wheels. The power steering belt drives the pump directly off the engine, so a worn or cracked belt reduces pump output and can cause the system to underperform or fail entirely. Fluid is the medium that carries that pressure, and over time it picks up contaminants and degrades. Degraded fluid transmits pressure less effectively and forces the pump to compensate, accelerating wear on components that are expensive to replace.

Addressing the fluid through a power steering fluid flush is one of the more cost-effective steps in keeping the system healthy. Replacing contaminated fluid before it damages the pump is considerably less involved than replacing the pump itself.

Warning Signs Your Power Steering System Needs Attention

A fluid leak near the front of the vehicle is worth investigating promptly. Left alone, a minor seal issue can progress into pump failure. If you’re noticing any of these signs in Oviedo or Winter Springs, getting the system inspected early gives our technicians the opportunity to address the root cause before it becomes a larger repair.

FAQs

  • Q. "How do I know if my power steering is starting to fail?"
3 common signs are that your wheel is requiring more force to turn, whining noise when turning, or your steering shakes when idle. If you are worried about your power steering failing, contact your local Christian Brothers today to have our experienced technicians take a look.
  • Q. "How often do I need to get my power steering fluid replaced?"
The average recommendation is between 40,000 and 80,000 miles, but it varies depending on your manufacturer's recommendations.
  • Q. "Why do I need to change my power steering fluid?"
With time, the power steering fluid in your vehicle loses its potency and can become contaminated. Fluid with foreign materials and dirt floating around in it is less efficient, meaning the pump works harder and is worn down faster. Putting new fluid in is much more cost-effective than buying a new pump.
  • Q. "What do I do if my power steering fails while driving?"
If your power steering fails while driving, it will require quite a bit of force to turn the wheel. Carefully pull to the side of the roadand call a tow truck to safely get your vehicle to an automotive shop.
  • Q. "What is a Digital Vehicle Inspection?"
With a complimentary Digital Vehicle Inspection (DVI) on every visit, you’ll see firsthand photos of your vehicle from under the hood. We’ll let you know if everything is functioning properly or if there are any areas of concern. You can even approve or deny our service recommendations, all straight from your smartphone, or you can, of course, give us a call and we’ll explain our findings in further detail.
  • Q. "Do you offer a warranty?"
As part of our Nice difference.® commitment to providing our customers the best auto service experience possible, we also offer a 3-year/36,000-mile warranty on all the work that we do. We offer this warranty at every Christian Brothers Automotive nationwide, and it will be honored at any location, regardless of which branch did the initial work.
