Frequently Asked Questions
How often should I get a coolant flush?
We generally recommend a coolant flush every 30,000 miles or every two years, depending on your vehicle manufacturer's guidelines. This service removes contaminants and replenishes additives that prevent rust and corrosion inside the radiator.
Can a radiator be repaired, or does it always need replacement?
Some metal radiators can be repaired, but most modern vehicles use aluminum cores with plastic tanks that crack over time. In these cases, radiator replacement is often the safer, more cost-effective long-term solution to prevent future leaks.
Is it safe to drive my car if it is overheating?
No, driving while overheating can cause severe, permanent engine damage, such as warped cylinder heads or a blown head gasket. Pull over safely, turn off the engine, and call for a tow to our Lakeland shop immediately.
Why is my coolant level low if I don't see a leak?
You may have a small pinhole leak that evaporates on hot engine parts before hitting the ground, or an internal leak. A professional pressure test during our radiator service can identify where the fluid is going.
Can I just use water in my radiator?
Water should only be used in an emergency. It lacks the anti-corrosion additives and boiling point protection of a proper coolant. Using straight water in the Central Florida climate can lead to rust and internal engine damage very quickly.
