Warning Signs Your Transmission Needs Attention
Transmission problems rarely appear without warning. If you notice any of the following, bring your vehicle to our transmission shop in Caldwell before the issue progresses:
- Slipping gears: The vehicle unexpectedly changes gears or struggles to stay in gear while driving.
- Delayed or rough shifting: Hesitation or jerky movements when the transmission shifts between gears.
- Unusual noises: Grinding, whining, or clunking sounds that occur while shifting.
- Leaking transmission fluid: Red or brown fluid spots appearing under the vehicle after it’s been parked.
- Burning smell: A sign that transmission fluid is overheating.
- Check engine or transmission warning light: Any dashboard warning light should be diagnosed promptly.
Transmission Services We Offer
Our Caldwell transmission shop handles the full range of transmission work. Whether your vehicle needs a routine fluid service or a complete replacement, our certified technicians diagnose the problem first using computer-based diagnostic tools, then recommend the repair that fits the issue. Many problems that look serious can be resolved without full replacement once a thorough diagnosis is complete.
We service both automatic and manual transmissions across all vehicle makes and models. Services include transmission flushes to maintain fluid condition and extend transmission life, and complete replacements when a transmission is beyond repair. Staying current on preventive transmission maintenance is one of the most effective ways to help reduce the risk of a costly repair down the road.
What to Expect at Your Transmission Service Appointment
When you bring your vehicle to Christian Brothers Automotive Caldwell for transmission repair, we start with a diagnostic scan, an inspection of fluid condition and level, and a check for external leaks. That gives our technicians a clear picture before any recommendation is made.
A written estimate is prepared before any work begins. You review it, ask questions, and approve the work before we proceed. If you need to leave your vehicle with us, our complimentary shuttle service is available so the repair fits into your schedule rather than disrupting it.
FAQs
-
Q. "What factors determine the price of transmission repair?"Many different factors go into determining costs of transmission repair. The major factor is what type of vehicle you drive. The year, make and model of the car, determine how much parts and labor will cost. Another factor is how much damage the transmission has sustained. Your transmission should last a minimum of 100,000 miles by servicing your transmission on a regular basis.
-
Q. "What does automatic transmission service include?"Fluid is first drained from the pan during an automatic transmission service. A new transmission filter is installed with a new pan gasket once the pan has been removed. Finally, fresh automatic transmission fluid (ATF) is used to refill the vehicle.
-
Q. "Is there a difference between a transmission fluid change and flush?"During a transmission fluid and filter change, it’s only the fluid in the pan that is drained and replaced with new ATF. Four to five quarts of fluid will typically be replaced in this process, while nine to thirteen quarts are replaced during a full transmission fluid flush. The difference in amounts is because the complete flush drains the entire system.
