What is ASE?

ASE is short for the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence. For over four decades, ASE has been testing and certifying automotive technicians.

How do technicians become certified by ASE?

ASE has more than 40 certification tests, spaning from damage analysis to auto parts. To be certified by the ASE, applicants must get a passing score on one of these tests and complete two years of relevant work experience. Those who complete more than one test can receive Master status. ASE requires that everyone retakes their tests every five years to stay current with industry trends.

What are the tests like?

To ensure accuracy and quality, ASE employs a group of educators, working technicians, executives, and manufacturers in the automotive industry to create the tests. Most technicians take one to two hours to complete an exam. Only two of every three people who take one of these tests will pass on their first attempt.
