Our Battery Service Process
We begin by listening to your concerns, including slow starts, warning lights, or inconsistent electrical performance. Our technicians then evaluate the battery and related starting and charging systems.
Your Digital Vehicle Inspection provides photos and notes from the evaluation. We explain the results and share an estimate for your approval. After completing the authorized maintenance or replacement, we perform a final inspection and road test.
1. Schedule Your Appointment
Whether scheduling online or over the phone be sure and let us know what you're experiencing so we can provide fast and accurate service advice.
2. Diagnostics and Inspections
Drop off your vehicle and the shop will get to work with inspections and diagnostics using the same equipment as the manufacturers to determine issues and next steps.
3. Digital Vehicle Inspection Report and Estimate
Following the diagnosis we will text you a digital vehicle inspection report, containing pictures and videos of our findings and recommendations.
4. Review and Approval
A service advisor will reach out to walk you through the findings and recommendations to determine how you would like to proceed, or you can approve work directly in your DVI.
5. Work Performed or Scheduled
Most work can be completed immediately, or scheduled based on parts and customer availability.
Choosing the Correct Replacement Battery
A replacement battery must match the vehicle manufacturer’s electrical and fitment requirements. Our ASE-certified technicians service all makes and models and base recommendations on the specifications established for each vehicle.
Three specifications guide battery selection:
- Cold Cranking Amps: This rating measures the current a fully charged battery delivers for 30 seconds at 0°F while maintaining at least 7.2 volts.
- Reserve Capacity: This measurement shows how many minutes a fully charged battery delivers 25 amps at 80°F before reaching 10.5 volts.
- BCI Group Size: This designation identifies the battery’s physical dimensions, terminal layout, and fitment.
AGM Batteries for Start-Stop Vehicles
Start-stop systems shut off the engine when the vehicle stops, placing greater demands on the battery than a conventional starting system. An AGM battery, or absorbent glass mat battery, recharges faster and handles repeated starts and substantial electrical demands better than a traditional flooded battery.
Not every vehicle requires AGM technology. Our technicians service domestic and import vehicles, including European and Asian makes, and follow the manufacturer’s electrical and fitment requirements when recommending a replacement.
Car Battery Replacement Cost & Appointment Timing
Battery replacement cost depends on the specifications required by your vehicle and the condition identified during evaluation. Testing the battery with the starting and charging systems helps determine whether the battery or another electrical component needs attention. We provide a straightforward estimate before approved work begins.

Signs Your Car Battery Needs Replacement
Recognizing the signs of a failing battery can prevent unexpected breakdowns and protect your vehicle’s reliability.
Common indicators include:
- Slow Engine Crank: If your engine turns over slowly or takes longer than usual to start, it may indicate a weak battery.
- Dimming Lights: Flickering or dimming headlights and dashboard lights can be a sign that your battery is losing its charge.
- Electrical Issues: Malfunctioning electronics, such as power windows or the radio, may suggest insufficient power from the battery.
- Check Engine or Battery Light: The illumination of these dashboard lights often points to battery or charging system problems.
- Swollen Battery Case: Exposure to heat can cause the battery case to swell, indicating internal damage.
- Corroded Terminals: A white, ashy substance around battery terminals can interfere with the battery’s performance.
By addressing these early warning signs, you can avoid the inconvenience of a stalled vehicle and plan service at your convenience rather than as an emergency.
At Christian Brothers Automotive Allen, our free courtesy inspection reviews the battery among the vehicle’s major systems. We also provide a free Digital Vehicle Inspection with vehicle photos and technician notes.

FAQs
-
Q. "How long can a car sit before the battery dies?"The battery in your car can die within as little as two weeks when unused. While our cars are more technologically advanced than ever, this comes at a cost. Due to the various gadgets and computer technology manufacturers include in our vehicles, the newest models coming off the line are always on, continually monitoring the car’s systems around the clock.
-
Q. "Does the temperature affect my vehicle's battery?"Hot and cold temperatures can ruin your battery, especially if it’s already weak. Most customers in warm, southern climates don’t realize that hot weather drains their batteries. On the other hand, cold temperatures slow down chemical reactions, which means that your car battery will become sluggish and appear to be far lower than it actually is. Most modern batteries are designed to deliver an abundance of power at what is considered a “cold crank” temperature, but older batteries or batteries which are further into their lifespan may even fail to start your car on a particularly frigid and frosty morning.

"Why do car batteries fail?"The answer to this popular question includes many different reasons, ranging from age, corrosion, alternator problems, extreme weather conditions, or the classic case of headlights being left on.
