But just because we feature a comprehensive list of services doesn't mean you shouldn't be aware of some ways to keep your vehicle working properly. The three items listed below should be checked on a regular basis to help you avoid future problems.
1. Windshield Wipers
Worn windshield wipers can turn a drive in a rainstorm from a trying experience into something that is extremely dangerous. As a car owner, you should probably replace your wipers every six to twelve months, depending on how much you drive. If you're looking for any signs of wipers that need to be replaced, listen for streaking, squeaking, or skipping sounds. Also, look at them to see if there is any corrosion, damage, or signs of wear and tear. If it's time for a new pair, you should be able to replace them yourself in just a few minutes.
2. Tire Pressure
The DMV recommends that you should check your tire pressure at least every other week. (A great time to do this would be when you fill up your car with gas.) To learn the ideal PSI for your tires, look in your owner's manual or the sticker on your driver's side door. If more air is needed, you should be able to use an air compressor at a local gas station for a few quarters.
Because we're always inside our cars while they are operating, a burnt-out light bulb can often go unnoticed for quite some time. Take a minute or two to check your headlights, brake lights, and turn signals with the assistance of a friend or family member. If you notice one isn't working, you can find the right replacement at a local auto parts store and make the switch in under 15 minutes. Or you can swing by Christian Brothers Automotive in Murphy and have us handle the replacement for you.
Why are you still reading this? Get off your computer and go check these items on your vehicle now! Knowing that your tires, wipers, and lights are working can go a long way to making you feel better about driving on Murphy roads.
